Firewall

My firewall is blocking some of my most used sites. I cannot get on gmail because of my firewall. Squidoo won't work correctly because of it. I can't leave any updates on Twitter. And, to make matters worse, my sorties won't load on Mylot! I had to turn my firewall off! I'm going to have to get my husband to fix it for me so that I can do the things I want to do, but still be protected. Has your firewall ever blocked a site you use a lot? What did you do about it?

I used Zonealarm for a long time because it was really good, however I updated my virus checker to one which had a firewall attached and had to remove it because you shouldn't have two firewalls running at the same time. Most firewalls have a facility for you to add trusted sites to it to allow you to use these sites, but make sure that you enter the site names correctly. There are a number of rogue sites which have very slight changes of name or a different suffix. One example of this was 'Whitehouse.com' which the U.S. government had accidentally some links to, instead of 'Whitehouse.gov' which is the official White House site. I would suggest that you block Whitehouse.com as this is a site you wouldn't want to visit. In this day and age you shouldn't turn your firewall off unless updating it.

Hi, I've had somewhat same experience with firewalls. Try to get ZoneAlarm firewall; it is the most easy firewall to configure( I'm saying allowing certain sites which you use and programs that you want to access ) and yet stay protected. You might have bought a license so might not wanna buy new software. Why don't you let me know the name of the firewall, maybe I could help you a bit more. I'll check back to the post if i see this article again. Hehe, I'm too lazy to copy the link of the post and save. Hehe

Zonealarm is the one I just had to get rid of. A friend of mine suggested it awhile ago, and then a couple weeks ago it totally messed up her computer. She couldn't do anything on the computer and finally she was able to restore the computer and uninstall zone alarm, then it was fine. Oddly enough, the same thing happened to me just a few days ago. After time Zonealarm will completely mess up your computer.

My firewall dont block a site i used a lot because i put it on my exclusion sites that the firewall will give it access. See firewall from windows and firewall from the antivirus you have in your computer. like mcafee has its own firewall, that is the example. even if you closed your firewall in your windows. you have another firewall from your antivirus. but not all anti virus have the firewall included in its software.

I was told by our cable company not use my a firewall.I have high speed internet. So,I don't use it.I do know it will stop alot of programs from working.I just run ccleaner every other day to scan for issues and fix them or I run my disk cleaner, this is before I shutdown my computer for the day. Also, you can scan your cdrive for errors and fix them. That's my 2 cents.

A cleaner is not enough to protect your computer, and your cable company is wrong. You do need a firewall to protect your computer.

FIREWALL. A FIREWALL can be integrated collection of securites measures desighened to prevent unauthorised electronics to a networked computer system. it is also device or set of devices configured to permit, deny, encrypt, decrypt,or proxy all computer traffic between different domains based upon a set of rules and other criteria. Firewalls can be implemented in both hardware and software,or a combination of both. firewalls are frequently used to prevent unauthorised internet users from accesing private nrtworks connected to the internet, especially intranets. katsmeow1213, Have you considered going into the firewall software's control panel to configure it to accept access into the various sites? If you are unfamiliar, then try to enable block alerts so that when the software is blocking the sites and seeking your permission, you can enable it and resolve your inaccessibility issues. Hope that this will be of help. Have a nice day.

katsmeow1213, Pardon me here, for I do not mean to pry but it would be good if you could include a little more information of your software and your affected PC's specs. All softwares have their control configuration, you will just need to find it from the information manual or the support page of their official website. Cheers and I do hope that this will be resolved soon.

I don't get any alerts, and this is a new Firewall I'm not very familiar with yet. I have to get my husband to do it for me, but I forgot all about it when he got home from work last night.

I have never had that problem before. I would be annoyed too if I were in your position. That is really bad if your firewall is even blocking gmail. I guess you just have to be careful what you do with your firewall turned off until your husband can fix it.

Do you use the firewall that comes with windows or are you referring to a third party firewall? I'm using the windows firewall and it works perfectly. There should be something in the configuration settings area of your firewall that allows you select which sites to allow through, this can also be carried out in Internet Options. Anyway, good luck, I hope this works for you. Andrew

I am very sure that my firewall does block alot of things, as I am not very computer literate and I am in the learning stages of money making sites and talking through mylot, facebook, and other sites I have heard alot about firewalls blocking things ....I know it is for the safety of the computer so I cant complain, and for right now I am not sure what I am missing as I started to really put my time in on the computer this year. good luck with yours and I hope you get it figured out. happy mylotting.
