Article writing to make a living

April 13, 2009 3:33pm CST
I am asking this in the hope that at least one person will say yes but I do want you to tell me the truth. Do you think it is possible to make a reasonable earning writing articles. I have only recently started trying to make a money online and I must admit this does seem to be the most lucrative way. Any helpful comments will be very thankfully received.

To be honest. If you were just thinking money out of just writing, then you may not succeed. they say that the best thing to do is do what you enjoy the most. and then turn it into a money making opportunity. otherwise, you might end up like my friend here. well, hopes he come back.

Hi Mikaela, To tell you the truth I decided to start trying to make money from working on the internet and as I do love to talk and tell stories and people are always telling me my imagination is quite powerful, it can have me in tears in seconds, I decided to try writing. I have found it to be something I love to do and if I can make money from it writing articles that is just the icing on the cake.

Yes of course it's possible to make an excellent income from writing articles. I've been doing this for 6 years. The easiest way to boost your income is to AVOID low-paying revenue share sites like Associated Content or Triond or Helium and go and find REAL freelance writing markets that will pay you properly for your time and effort. If you can do that, you'll be able to earn a great income easily.

Honestly, yes and no. It depends on how much time and effort you put into it. To make a decent amount of money, you must constantly search for new clients, send out writing samples, and expect some rejection. The pay varies from client to client depending on who you write for. You can sign up for the many writing sites out there and probably make a couple of hundred a month, depending on how much you write and what the site pays. You also have to be wary of copyright laws. Never ever post an article on articlebase. It will get stolen. Follow submission guidelines. Apply to everything, even if you think you don't qualify. Someone might like your writing or be willing to work with you. Build up some quality writing samples 250-300 words that you can use. Be wary of people asking for 400 word or more writing samples in a specific subject matter, they are trying to get free articles and probably won't pay. Always read the fine print with contracts and be clear on who owns the article rights. Finally and more importantly, check out any website before submitting any of your work. Good luck in your writing career.

It's very possible for a person to make decent money writing articles online. The one obstacle though, is to find which articles will actually earn you money. You may not be able to earn much with just one website, but there are several out there that do pay if you have the right things to say. There are so many talented writers out there, that it is difficult to match what those people write. It's also hard to get your material accepted when competing with other excellent writers. If you have a true passion to write, and write about the popular subjects, I think that you will do alright. Like I mentioned before, you may have to write for more than one website, but it is possible. Hope this helps!

Hello janyen, Yes I do have a couple of blogs but I found that I was not earning from them so I have joined a couple of article sites, and yes I am enjoying them but I am also hoping to make money from them also.

I can't speak from experience, but it seems possible. Start the conversations so you get paid more, and get some friends involved so you can make money off them too and it could work out, but I don't think it's one of those things where you work for an hour a day and it's enough to live off of. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Like anything you want to be successful with, it takes time and energy and constant practice. There are a lot of writing sites, from beginning to very demanding. I don't think most people could earn a living just starting out, but over time, I think it's possible. The longer you write, the more you learn and earn! Good luck with your writing! You might want to check out a site like eLance.

It really takes some time to build a following in order to make enough money. If you are really good, you'll get the higher paying offers and even published in magazines. But the market is tough and it really takes a lot of work to make it. I know maybe a handful of people who sort of make a living of it, but most people take it just as extra cash.

... or you could go and look for the REAL freelance markets that pay you $1 per WORD - not $1 per article, which is slave labor rates.

There are a lot of factors to take into consideration. If you are willing to sell exclusive rights, you should be able to make money selling the articles in Constant Content. Some of the articles are selling above $100, even with commission of 33% to Constant Content, it's still a good earning of $67 per article. Constant Content accepts those articles with perfect grammar. For those writers good at academic works, the rates offered at http://academia-research.com/how.htm is rather reasonable. Some writers are able to write 6 to 10 articles in a day, the earnings will be comparable to a full time employment. Another factor is the cost of living in your country. Unfortuately you stay in UK, the exchange rate is not that favorable to you. Even for me staying in Singapore, US$1 = S$1.5, the earnings is not that great, the cost of living here is very high. If I'm staying in Malaysia, our neighboring country, US$1 = MYR3.6, with the lower cost of living especially in those small towns, even earning of US$300 is much more than what the local earns.

How much do you normally make from the article writing sites, and which sites do you use? I have been very interested in writing for years, and I gave up for a while. Recently I have joined Helium because I heard a lot of positive things, but I haven't gotten around to posting my first article yet. I would love to be able to earn the income to take maybe a month off work and just focus on writing for a bit, but I don't know if that will ever happen!

It takes time depending on your writing subjects and how likely it is to receive hits. For example, anything having to with politics, entertainment or everyday how-to is likely to receive hits, which equals dollars. Fiction, reviews (unless you are paid upfront)and poetry, not as likely to see quick money. Knowing what markets work for you, companies to submit to, keyword density and knowing your audience I'd say are basic factors for determining prosperity in writing. Best.

hah, I have the same questions to you. I have start a lens in studioo, but my balance is $0 now. I think it's a long way to go. If you want to live on writting ,perhapse it's impractical in the initial.
