I think he was just as surprised as those two men at the side. I mean you see a woman who is not exactly pretty, rather plain looking, and the first thing you think she sounds like a mouth full of gravel. He probably did not think she was that good until she opened her voice and sang. So he lied when he said that he knew she had talent, he was trying to make her feel better. She understood that, because I bet she was put down most of her life. So he was being gracious. I have not heard the other contestants, but she would be good in musical theater.

I've only seen the video of her singing and possibly not all of it either. Another person posted the video. She's got a beautiful voice on her. For what Simon said, he may have been just trying to make himself look good or he could have been joking, I don't know, but maybe he felt bad for whatever he could have been thinking.

I saw the video on youtube. I really love her voice. She could pass of as a professional theatrical singer. Thou if you're just going to look at her you wouldn't guess that she posses a beautiful voice. Yeah, she deserved to win.

i didn't see the show. i think it was taped in england but she sure lit up the news, bless her heart she floored them all. good for her !! i hope she does win. it will show alot of people that u don't have to be young & sexy to have talent. so many like don't have any anyway.

I saw this too on the news today they said that Simon has already had her signed up with a singing contract deal. What company I do not know. I wonder how those people in the audience that were making faces felt when they heard her sing. It was a few of them the camera was showing making faces. Just like one of the comments that I heard on youtube said, you can't judge a book by its cover. She shut up a lot of mouths. WTG Susan Boyle.

Simon is correcting himself actually - in a very "Simonic way". I looked at the video when I read this thread and I thank you for starting this discussion. And what can I say about Susan? Three letters - W!O!W! That's truly amazing! She's got a magnificent voice plus a sunny personality. She's very likable and I love her already! I replayed the video thrice then forwarded the link to some friends. Such a rare gem should be shared all over the world.
