Will you lick to the envelope?

envelope - lick the envelope

Some people may have the habit of licking the envelope. How about you? I have never licked any envelope because I don't think it's clean. I prefer to use glue and it is also convenient. Today I watched a TV program and it is terrified to know that the envelop will have cockroach's eggs. So if you have this habit, it is better to avoid it.

I don't have to lick the envelope, I just press the send button and it goes where ever I send it. Actually we do use envelopes though only rarely and yes, we do lick them, but we keep ours in a ziplock bag.

I used to lick envelopes when i was younger (in my teens), but i don't anymore. LOL! God knows what chemicals in it or how many hands it has passed through. So I am with you on the glue.. I saw my son licking an envelope once and I went berserk! LOL! At that moment, I truly felt like a mom. LOL!

The TV didn't mention the stamps, but I am afraid somewhat it will have the virus on the stamp. Just use glue to stick it.

No, I would never lick an envelope. Previously I would use liquid gum but as you said, the glue stick is much better so I use that now thought its trifle expensive. If nothing else, I would seal the envelope with cello tape but licking I could never do…also you know its quite risky. I mean the amount of gum they put may not be sufficient and with the handling of the post office or courier people, the contents may actually come out. So its better to be safe than sorry. And yes, the glue stick is much hygienic too.

If it's just a few envelopes I've always licked the flap. However, after reading your post, I think I'll stop that habit.

Hi, youless. I do not lick envelopes because aside from being unsanitary, it tickles my tongue in an unpleasant way. It's the first time I heard about the possibility of an envelope having cockroach's eggs but, yes, it does makes sense. And, mind you, not only cockroach's eggs. It can have rat's waste, etc. Have a nice day!

And licking the envelope will have the possibility to cut your tongue. It is very horrible.

Yes, before, I used to lick when sealing an envelope.LOL! But now I have to use a past of water because of the danger of acquiring diseases through the envelope, so I am now discarding that habit of licking.

I did this quite often when I was a little kid. For an innocent kid, we found interesting to do in this way and regardless whether it was hygienic or not! I stopped doing this after my parents told me that the glue on the envelope was dirty and not good for our health, as well as it was indecent to lick it. Since then I tried not to lick the envelope anymore, and use my finger or sponge with water to wet the glue on the envelope before sealing it. Happy posting.

I used to lick the envelope till someone sent me an article concerning licking the envelope. The article even had photos on it showing this person's tongue - he/she licked the envelop and didn't realize it got cut by the paper till a few days later and it swell and he/she went for operation...horrible...so from that day onwards I never licked an envelope but put gum on it. Besides I find that putting gum on the envelope seals the letter more secure.

i do not lick the envelope. why should i? there are a lot of ways to stick it. use a paste, a glue or any adhesive. or drop a small amount of water in the adhesive and stick it. i would rather do these things than lick it.

I normally get my fingers wet, then wet the glue on the envelope. If I am in a hurry, I will go ahead and just lick it. I doubt that they are as clean as we'd like them to be, but it hasn't killed me yet.
