sleeping in a strange bed

Do you have trouble sleeping in a strange bed such as a hotel room or a friends place? Is it the bed or is it the place? I have trouble sleeping at the best of times but when I go out of town and stay at a hotel I have trouble sleeping. And trying to stay at a friends place or even family is worse because I feel I am making noise and disturbing them because I have to walk around to try and wear myself out enough to sleep.

Hi, yes I too am in the identical condition lose my normal sleep or have no sleep at all. My own bed is my own bed. If I am to stay overnight at a casual friend's house I feel too uncomfortable as I feel as if they are disturbed or they are worried over my well being etc. If in hotel the liberty of movement is there but if once you feel the bed is not up to your expectation your sleep is gone. Therefore if I am to stay in any hotel I do not compromise with the rent. I need some good sleep.

Put me in a strange bed and I cannot sleep. I will toss and turn all night, it takes a couple of nights and I am ok. It is something I have not control over. I guess I like my own bed at home. I guess it is my lizard brain liking a familiar surrounding and it is like something is waking me up trying to tell me something is wrong. There is no place like home, and that goes for my own bed too.

I have no problem sleeping anywhere I go, I have always been a sleepyhead hehehe. I can fall asleep while sitting in a sofa. I guess that is why I like to travel to places because I don't feel uncomfortable staying in different places.

yes i also have trouble sleeping in a hotel and at a friend's house. especially in a hotel room where i am alone. i really cannot sleep much if i am alone. when i was a kid, i used to sleep with my mom or grandmother. then in college, i stayed in a dormitory where I have room mates. at a friend's house, i cannot sleep immediately too. and i will also wake up so early unlike when i am at home and i cannot make myself rise early. strange!

I suppose I am lucky. I can sleep anywhere. When I was working I travelled a lot and some times in a working week I would have four or even five beds in several different countries and never had a problem. My favourite was to travel over night by train in a sleeper or on the huge ferries beween Stockholm and Finland. A good dinner helps. What a pity a young lady has to walk around to get tired. There are better and more enjoyable ways!.

I'm usually fine sleeping at a friend's place or hotel room. The only problem is my room-mates; if it's my husband or family members (mum, sis), it's fine. But if it's a business trip and I have to share the room with my colleagues, I really can't sleep at all. If the trip is longer than 3 days, I would eventually fall asleep on the 3rd night (too exhausted to care!)

I am usually alright sleeping wherever as long as I have a comfortable clean bed and room. I tend to sleep well as long as I am tired enough and do not have too much on my mind! If I am sleeping in the presence of others or the place in which I am sleeping is not very clean I find it hard to get to sleep.

I think I sleep better in a motel/hotle... if they're clean, of course. I get excited to be in a motel/hotel, so I sleep better. Plus, the bed is bigger. I hate staying at someone else's house, because I get really nervous about making noise, like you are. If I get hungry, or have to use the bathroom, or want to do anything that makes noise, I panic really bad. And when I try to be quiet, I get so nervous that I make even more noise than I would normally :P I'll knock something over, or I'll drop something, or I'll be paying attention to something so much, that I completely overlook something else and trip over it :P Plus, I always feel like everything I do, is inconveniencing someone who actually lives in that house. For some reason, I have more trouble sleeping in someone else's house, than a motel/hotel. I feel so weird being there.
