A cat or dog?

Which would you prefer as a pet? I like the way that cats are able to look after themselves but then again I prefer the loyal nature of a dog.

I have always had cats around during my life. I think they are the neatest animals. Such characters in their right. I love the heeler breed of dog and when I go to Montana to live in August we will be getting one. They are the right size and very smart. They are a herding breed so they stay close and are easy to train. Most other dogs I just don't seem to bond with or like that much.

One of my favorite phrases about cats and dogs is: Dogs have masters, cats have staff. I think that says alot.

That is a clever phrase!

Very true. Cats do seem to have very particular personalities almost. I have not actually heard of the heeler breed of dog but they do sound like the kind of dog that would be nice as a pet.

We have 2 dogs, and one cat and we love them all the same. Cats are more independent, But they are also loyal. When i get up and go into another room all three of them follow me, when i come home from being out, i have all three of them by the door to great me when i get home.

That's lovely. Thank you for sharing as I think many people assume cats are not so loyal by nature but perhaps we are wrong!

I have a dog right now. Dogs are definitely my favorite types of pets, but I do like cats as well. A lot of people in my apartment complex have them, and when I see the cats outside I always stop to pet them. They are very receptive to the attention as well. But I just love dogs. All shapes, sizes, and breeds.

Sounds like you do have a real affection for dogs. I know how you feel. They are such loving and giving animals aren't they?

I've always had dogs, mostly because I'm deathly allergic to cats. But I do love cats and I feed the neighborhood strays. The two dogs I now have are my last, as I don't think it fair to die and leave a pet behind and I'm getting too old to outlast a pet!

Lovely that you feed the strays. You obviously have a big heart.

i guess i'd say a dog. we were never allowed a cat growing up. for some reason my mother hated cats. i would mind a cat but wouldn't like a litter box in my house.

Both cats and dog are good for pets but cats are playful and stay with you only while they are very young. On the other hand dogs stay with you all the time, they rarely go out of the house (that is if you let them go out). Cats spend most of the day out. I have had cats and dogs both as pets over the years and I think I prefer to have a dog rather than a cat.

I guess dogs are much more reliant than cats. Cats tend to feel independent after a short while.

I've had both and I like either one. Cats are more independent but they are also so self-efficiant (no walks), but dogs are more protective and will alert you to ppl outside. Either way, I love them both. Right now we have our cat, Mogana and she's my baby girl. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I like dogs, as you say, dogs are loyal, and very lovely, often, dogs are full of spirituality, and that dogs are very intelligent animals. I do not like cats, because, I think the cat is a very evil animals, may lead to a bad phenomenon.

I'm not sure that I agree with cats being evil. Yes dogs are loyal, loving and intelligent. But I think cats can be loving too, they are just a little selfish at times and very capable of looking after themselves rather than having to rely on anyone. I guess their nature changes the relationship they have with their owners.

I love to have a dog, because i hate the fur of cat and it is allergic to me too.

Yes I can imagine that being allergic to cat fur would make you not want to own a cat! Thanks for responding.

I like both but I would have to say I prefer a dog more. There is no real reason, I guess it is just because that is what we have. A good friend of ours has both a cat and a dog and I swear there cat is evil. It always has this look in her eyes and you can just be sitting there minding your own and she will either coming jumping up at your face or will come by and start clawing at your leg. And it always makes this evil sounding meow..it isn't one of those "oh pet me" meows it is more like a "I am going to get you" type growl meows. I still really like the cat and she is very pretty but I just tend to not really go near the cat when I am there and I am always teasing my friends saying their cat is evil.

I have to admit that she does sound rather scary!
