Jack Russell puppies

I breed Jack Russells and never have any trouble selling them, but this time I am left with 2 males as 3 people pulled out of buying them for personal reasons. I do have 2 ordered out of the next litter but that doesn't help me now. The pups are 6 1/2 weeks so I am not stressing yet, but I don't understand it...my mum thinks it's the economy stressing people out & stopping them from paying for the pups & their food. I would be happy to keep these puppies myself as they are sooo cute and will be wonderful little dogs, but I have 3 already (plus we have 2 working dogs and a hunting dog) and I won't be able to use these pups for breeding unless I get more unrelate females - which I won't do. I love breeding and even with the heartbreak of loosing 5 out of 6 puppies out of our mummy dog (these pups are her grandpuppies) I will continue to breed...the loss was due to them being born 2 weeks early because of a horrible heat wave we had. Has anyone else found they are having trouble selling puppies...or does anyone want to buy one of my gorgeous pups?

Aww , I hope you find good homes for them soon. You might consider lowering the price a little as they are getting older if they dont go soon. I do think the economy has affected so many that they are more concerned with their own family than getting a dog. I think too so many just feel insecure with the way things are going and have been going!

I'm not one to start drama or anything, but first off I don't think you're allowed to sell things on mylot. Second, and more importantly, why are you trying to sell dogs that are 6 1/2 weeks old?! That's not good, or healthy for them. 8-12 weeks is when they are supposed to go to their forever home.

I did not attack you in any way Tosha 21. In fact if you read the begining I defended you and I even looked into that you weren't in the states. I just gave you an article that says why they should try and be left with the litter until 8 weeks. that is all. I never reemed you out. So look again very carefully at what I stated before .. I gave her the links to were she needed to go to see stuff. I even made a point of seperating my comments.

" Secondly 6 weeks is very safe to have puppies leave their mother, especially when the mother has weaned them & they are on food " The above is a quote from you and the only reason I showed you the article I never said you were a bad breeder I never made any comments that attacked you I only gave an article for reference. So what you need to do is calm down and realize that I'm not attacking trust me you'll know when I attack...

Bella..........excellent research as always, and yeah, you didn't attack. You're right, people would FEEL it if you did! LOL Toosh.........as a well respected breeder I'm sure you know your dogs and your business, and you certainly don't sound like a money grubbing breeder, so kudos to you. But EVERYONE, let's be fair here. Yes there are lots of articles and guidelines etc., for just about everything including breeding dogs. But life doesn't always follow guidelines to the letter. It's like Communism.....good in theory. What's important is knowing your 'product' and what's best for it. I have a mutt. I got her when she was six weeks old. She was ugly and quiet and missed a lot of her mother's attention and care because she just wasn't aggressive enough to fight for her share among her siblings. So her owner wanted to get rid of her fast, and I took her home. She's grown into a huge, lovely tempered dog and I wouldn't trade her for the world, and the first person who told me I took her too young would get a bite on the ankle from ME! I realize that purebreds are different, but I also know that Jack Russel's are one of the smartest breeds there is, whose lines stay true, so I'm sure Toosh is the best judge of how to wean and when to sell them. I'd give my eye teeth to own one........ So play fair everyone and be nice. Toosh, I hope you get your dogs sold soon and business picks up.

Well first off I would like to say that I have never tried to breed a dog before as I'm not a breeder. But I do have Huskies which aren't cheap dogs. LOL!! I payed 1000 for my first husky and the second husky I have she was retired from breeding so I adopted her from the breeder I got my first husky from. Now to me 150 is a drop in the bucket for a dog if they are AKC Registered. Are you're dogs AKC registered? Also have you called the people that have ordered two pups from the next litter and seen if they wanted one of these pups?

Your mummy is completely right. You should need to be careful about your hobby. Expensive hobbies can burn your pockets and they are difficult to manage and maintain as well.

I am very careful about my hobby...I always have pups ordered before I breed, but my dogs are very unusual and have 6 pups per litter and I have to sell them all. My hobby doesn't cost me much as we would have the dogs whether we were breeding them or not.

Awww! I dont think I could ever do that. I wouldnt want to give up any of the puppies! They are always too cute! I think your mom is right. I think people are avoiding getting new pets. There are even tons and tons of people who are turning their pets into the shelter. It is heartbreaking to see so many animals without homes. I think the economy is especially true of buying pets from breeders. These pets tend to be far more expensive than pets from shelters. People are cutting back on the money they are spending, so buying from a breeder is out of the question! I noticed you posted this a few weeks ago. Were you able to find homes for those pups?

It is hard to let these puppies go but I always know they are going to really good homes as I screen the buyers and if I don't think they will look after them I will not sell them a pup. I actually did sell all our gorgeous little puppies and have 4 ordered already out of the next litter...it seems people are still wanting them even with the economy and they all went to fantastic homes - all of the buyers have rang me since and told me how the puppies are going, I love this as I love to know how they are going...and a few of them have even asked me to go and visit the puppies whenever I like! Thanks for your response!
