Prevention is better than cure.

Some people take better care of their car than they do of their body. Most people, in fact, pay little attention to their body until something goes wrong. Yet why should anyone create that kind of situation? We should all be looking at what we are eating. How much and how often do we exercise? When was our last check-up? We will all get old someday if we live long enough, and people today are living much longer than even thirty years ago. If we want to not only live long, but also have a good quality of life, the time to take care of our bodies is now. While it's true that modern medicine can cure diseases that it couldn't a few years ago, prevent is still better. Prepare for a happier and healthier old age by treating your body right today. What are your thoughts and do you think you will follow through on them?

We can prevent so many diseases if we only take care of ourselves by eating a balance diet and engaging in any type of exercise even if we just walk or play tennis with friends. Risk behaviors, excessive eating ,and lack of exercise is contributing to so many diseases that can be preventable.

Hello pose! I certainly agree with you in saying that we all need to take good care of our body especially at this time that everything is instant. Long long ago, people could live a hundred years because they take foods which are healthy, but now even vegetables contain pesticides that gradually kill our cells. Unless, we plant veggies at our own backyards then we are safe. But few people do this; thus, we really need to give a care towards our own health to prevent us from getting modern diseases...

Alot of people don't take good care of their bodies. I just recently this week started to exercise again everyday I do small workouts until I can build up to better and longer ones. I watch the show the drs and they were talking about how they can do an ultrasound in your neck and see if you are at risk of having a stroke. My hubby said that I need to start going to the dr to have regular check ups since I will be 30 at the end of next month.

I do watch what I eat....and get exercise..probably not enough but with bad knees I do the best that I can....I however smoke....and don't know if I can give it up. I know alot of people though that have watched it and passed away young anyway....it's like they tell you what to eat and whatnot to eat so you don't get cancer..then you see a small baby that has it....so what really is the answer?

Hi jillhill, Thank you for commenting and i understand what you are saying. Not one of us knows if will live to be 80 or more but more and more people are doing it. Wouldn't it be much better to have quality as well as quantity? Blessings.

I so agree. Being proactive and involved in your own health is very important. It is sad to see the old folks in such bad shape and it is all preventable. I think when people are young they don't take their health seriously. Then when they grow older it is too late. Afew basics in your life and it is all good. It is just silly not to take care of yourself.

I think that sometimes, even those who are very health-conscious have trouble with actually doing all that is needed for the best health. I am a pretty health-conscious person and I know when something isn't quite right with me. I know that I need to eat good, and exercise. I don't always do it though. I lead a very busy life, and frankly, I don't always have the time to prepare the healthiest of meals. I do not have the time to go to the gym as I should, and my exercise program is often incorporated into my work day. There are some things that we just can't foresee or prevent. My bad back wasn't foresee-able, nor was it something I could prevent. I just have to do my best to make sure it doesn't get any worse. Even though I agree that we should pay more attention to how we treat our bodies, I can fully understand how and why many people don't do it.

Hi lynnemg, Thank you for responding. I agree that there are things that it's not possible to foresee, and it's good that that you are doing the right things. A more positive attitude is very helpful and would get more people involved. Blessings.

I don't want to get to fifty years old and be told if I don't take action I could have a heart attack. That is something someone in my family was recently told. Now I was evidently born with illnesses that cannot be cured, but I have taken steps to make sure I get myself as healthy as I possibly can. I've been eating right for a while. Sunday and Monday I walked two miles (doctor won't allow me to jog or run). Yesterday I did a while on my exercise bike that I have in my living room. And this morning I was on my exercise bike and then walked a mile. I did it around 5:30am because when it gets warm I don't function well. I often can't do this much exercise, so when I can, I want to do what needs to be done.

That really is wise saying. You can prevent many illnesses if proper diet and exercise schedule are maintained. So there is nothing wrong in trying to be a little cautious over things that might look trivial at the outset.

Good day to you. For me its hard because i have no time to exercise because of my work. I only take vitamins but for me its not enough. I want to take herbal medicine but some are expensive. I have to find a way to solve this problem. Thank you for your comments.

I agree with you 100%! I can admit though that I take care of anyone and anything better than myself. But I am very concious about what I eat, and the exercise I get. It's easy for us to forget about ourselves though in this day and age. Everyone is too busy to remember themselves sometimes. People get hungry but are too busy to make a meal, so they go to fast food restaurants or order in. That could also be a sign of laziness as well..some people just don't care!? For me, I want my body to be as healthy as it can be, so I get routine blood work done and see dieticians from time to time. I like to know that I am doing OK. I am a vegetarian and am currently working on my diet so I can be more healthy :)
