I wish to learn Acoustic Guitar, but due to a very tight schedule I don't think I'll be able to attend classes even if I chose to. The only other option is to learn from sources like you tube or E books which I have in loads, and also video lessons. But are these ideas practically worth my time? Do they actually lead to a positive and significant effect or are just gimmicks?

I think it will take more time and dedication to learn guitar online then if you would go to the classes. There are so many people that can help you play guitar and teach you the right way, plus you need a lot more discipline if you want to be self-taught. I, for one, would slack off. IF you have the lessons in loads, then why haven't you already started to play the guitar?

Well I haven't yet begun because I don't have a guitar yet. I have lessons in the form of ebook and proper videos from sites that i downloaded recently.

Physicists will never be able to play a guitar because they'll be too busy calculating the sound wavelengths and electrical amplitudes. Just a random thought :)

I am not sure how much you can find and how far along you are with learning guitar but I do know that they do show some guitar videos on Youtube.com My husband has been on there before just to check out how other people are playing certain songs. How much do you know about playing the guitar first? Because I think most of the youtube videos are for people that are already playing or know a little bit about guitar and just want to learn a new song but I can't be positive what type of videos they have. The videos that my husband have watched on there seem to be pretty real and not gimmicks but I think it just varies...I think if you searched enough it might actually help you learn guitar...Good Luck!

I have no knowledge of that instrument, i can play a few others, but haven't tried this one yet. I am yet to buy a guitar. Firstly I want to figure out if i will be able to respectfully learn it with dedication or not...cuz there is no point wasting money you see ): I have lessons like those found on sites, i downloaded them from sources ;P.

I would think that once you figure out the basics - which strings produce which notes, etc - and you are good at teaching yourself to do things, you can teach yourself to play. Especially if you already have a working knowledge of musical theory.

i dont think it will be easy to just go on your own and go by what internet tells you, because then if you cant find the answer for anything you might not be able to figure it out and therefore not progress. but there are ways to help learn guitar on the computer. there is a very useful program called "guitar pro" it plays like a midi file for songs that you can usually find by googling "(song name) guitar pro" and then selecting the link that sounds like what you want. i think you have to pay for a full version or you can download a free trial. im not too sure. i hope it helps you, for i know it has helped me...(a lot)

you can learn guitar all by your self without attending classes. As a another user said, most of the youtube videos you mention are for players that know a bit already, but on the other hand you can find many videos showing different techniques for beginners. I would recommend that you find a guitar tab of a easy song and start getting accustomed to playing chords and figuring out if you want to play with a guitar pick or fingerstyle. I prefer fingerstyle but that's just me.
