Well the question is clear We don't have very nice internet speed and rather very much expensive. So I am provided with the speed of 128 kbps(kilobits per second) or 15 kilobytes per second. Yes pretty slow, but bounded to work on this. I know the developed nations has larger speed. So I want to know how much?

what is the meaning of 128kbps and 15kilobytes per second? Both can't be true! I am using 256 kb per second speed broadband connection and I must say that I am very much satisfied with it. I can get a download rate of up to 35 kb ps in night as I am using a free download at night plan!

I mean no one really uses the term 256 kilobytes per second. they will always use 256 kbps. I mean the abbreviation of kilobyte and kilobit is same which is kb. So, people used to get confused. Anyway, that was some nice informations!

Hello sanuaunu!!! Ok I think you don't know the difference between the kilobits per second and kilobytes per second. The calculation is that 8 kilobits is equal to one kilobyte. That's why when 128 kilobits per second(kbps) is divided by 8 we get about 15 kilobyte per second. This can be seen during the downloading case. Same with your case. You are given 256 kilobits per second and now divide it by 8. You will get 30 kilobytes per second. Just these are different denotation for the same speed. And sometimes, you can get a little bit greater speed specially when you use download accelerator. Thanks for your participation in this thread....

well, if you think that 15kbps is slow then my net connection is of no use to you! Well, my net connection connects at 460kbps! But the downloading speed is only 15kps at max!! Sometimes it goes as low as 1 kbps!!! I know it painfully slow. I pay $1 per month so i think its fine! LoL Actually, I was going got wi-fi connection but i dropped the plan because I'll end up download only movies and nothing else! So i though, just to read an email is fine with 15kpbs! An therefor I'm still using the same connection. I'll be going for wi-fi soon after i get a new laptop and a new bike!

Hello nokimchen!!! I hope you are doing good here in mylot. I didn't understand how your net connection connection connects are 460 kbps and get only download speed 15kbps at max. But 15kbps, are you sure it is 15 kbps or it is KBps. Is it kilobits per second or kilobytes per second. Well there is a lot difference between these two. 8 * kbps = 1 KBps. i.e 8 kilobits is equal to 1 kilobyte per second. Is the internet connection being shared. I don't know why are you getting that low speed. Yeah, I would also be happy with the connection, if it was a single dollar like you. I am paying about 14 dollars per month. You seem to be improving your standard of life too much, you are going to have a laptop as well as bike, hmmm....I am jealous lol.... Anyway good luck, hope you get nice laptop, nice bike and nice internet connection...

Right now the speed is about 48kbps, GPRS connection in rural area(my hometown). I use mobile internet connection. When I was in broadband area(3G and HSDPA), the speed is about 200kbps and higher(max. 384kbps). If you have broadband, you can test your speed online. Try www.speedtest.net or search for speed test.

Hi nzalheart, I have a DSL conection with aobut 700 kbps for download and 128 kbps for uploand. pryor to that I had dial-up conection which had the same speed as you have now. there are faster speeds avaible from my ISP that would be even greater than what I have now. but it more expensive than I am willing to pay, also I usieing a laptop with a 1.6 gig processoer and I am not sure aobut upgrading my speed while using this device. my ISP does offer a conecton speep that is abou 100x more than the conection speed you have but agian it is expensive envend for here. I live in the US.

Hello scififan43!!! I hope the speed you are using is enough for you. The higher speed are only necessary for download and watching youtube video I think. I hope with the speed you have now, you can open any page instantly. I thought US used even more than this speed. I hope you can take with various speed, isn't it.... But for use, to increase the speed, i.e to reach even 256 kbps, I have to pay double than what I am paying now, so bad. Is ADSL and DSL same? I am using ADSL service, that needs a telephone line. Do you need telephone for your internet service. Thanks for the response...Hope you see you again...

Hello again scififan!!! Now I am sure that DSL and ADSL is same because I can also use my telephone line and the internet at the same time. The telephone line is connected to the router or modem and which is networked with our computer. Same isn't it? I have to wait too much for watching youtube videos. Therefore mostly I download the video before watching them. Thanks for responding back...Keep mylotting...See you again....

The concection speed is fine for my purpses for now. I can watch youtube videos and uploand them as well. I can download music and podcast also. It it is alos easer to post pics on socal networking sites as well with my currnet connetion speed.. I am not sure but ADLS and DSL maybe the same. I still need a telephone line for my internet service. with this I can be on the internet and be able to be on the phone at the same time.

My speed of the internet service is 2M.It is quite fast, and also, very expensive. The fee of internet service is rising rapidly in these several years as the users are growing. We always hope that there can be some government policies to reduce the internet fee.But the fact is that the fee just keep rising.I cannot bear very slow internet service so I book a 2M one.The download speed can be fast than 200 kb per second.Although it is very fast,I still don't think it deserve its price.Internet fee is a big cost of my family.I really hope the telicom can lower the price in some day.

What does 2M mean? Is it 2 Megabyte per second or 2Megabit per second. However this is very high speed. Far far far many times higher than ours. I have to say that I am lucky to get 128 kbps too why? Because there are very few home users on internet in Nepal. Most people depend on the cybers for internet. This is because of the fact that, the cost of internet is tooooo high. And the internet currently I am using cost 14$ a month and still it is only 128 kbps. And for 256kbps, the charge is 24$ a month. Oh! this is just too expensive. Don't you think so? That's why in our case too, internet is the big cost for my family too. Thanks for the response landi927!!! Keep mylotting... I wish that the price of internet decrease both in your nation and mine too...

Hello MAHESH2008!!! 56Kbps can be okay for home purpose sometimes. To have small is better than having nothing isn't it? Well I had also been using the net connection with only 56 kbps some months ago. It was dial up connection from Nepal connection. But sometimes, it didn't even give the speed upto 56kbps and only about 33kbps when the connection is being used by many users. But now I am happy to get the DSL line. It is faster and unlimited so that I don't have to fear for the high telephone bill each time I log on to the internet.... Thanks for your response MAHESH2008!!!Keep mylotting...

Hello Archie!!! If I were you, I would not stop a single second behind to add up the speed to 2Mbps when we don't actually need any extra charge for that. As for me, I download files too much, that's why I wish if I could increase my internet speed. And from increasing the speed, I need to pay double than what I am paying now... Thanks for the response Archie....Happy mylotting...

2 and half times greater than mine. You seem to be fond of movies. Let me calculate, downloading movies would take about 4-5 hours in average if its about 1 GB isn't it. Enjoy movies and keep mylotting friend..And yes I joined interAdmedia under your referral but I really doubt will it pay or not. Because it claims to pay for doing nothing so so great. Don't you think so?

It's not really easy to deal with a slow internet connection when I know that there are much faster connections offered in the market. I am using a dial-up connection only and it is really a very slow connection. It has only 52kbps as its fastest speed. But then, there are also positive effects about my slow connection and one is that I learned to be patient.

Hello tracydee!!! Well before this unlimited 128 kbps connection, I had also been using the same dialup connection with 52 kbps speed like you. The cost was based upon the usage time. I had to pay for the telephone bill. And that's why I was too much careful in using the internet. And now I happy happy to get the unlimited connection one. You seem to be really optimistic one who sees the good sides of any thing to see such a benefit from the slow internet, Interesting...Keep up your optimistism, that's great.... Happy mylotting... and thanks for your response...

Hello aditya!!! Yes, if I increase the speed to 256 kbps from this 128 kbps, it would cost about 20 dollars to me, that means the price seems to be only little bit cheaper there. And why did you declined your speed for 2 Mbps to 256?
• India
14 May 09
hi nzalheart I gave up my 2 mbps connection because it had limited usage . It was based on number of hours of internet usage. I used to pay 16$ for 60 hours of internet use with speed of 2 mbps . I had to use that 60 hours in 1 month . 60 hours per month was not sufficient for me though it had good speed of 2 mbps . So i decided to go for 256 kbps connection with unlimited usage for 18$ per month.

15 May 09
Hello aditya!!! Oh...So here is the reason you gave up the 2 mbps connection and choosed 256 kbps connection. Sorry aditya, I have asked you this question in another thread out there... If this is the reason, I would also have done the same thing. 2Mbps is fast but the price is very expensive and not unlimited too. I hope you are enjoying your internet surfing now and don't need to bother to look for the time of usage every time. If I were you, I thing the sixty hours of internet will last for about maximum 15 days, not more than that hehe.... Thanks for responding....Happy mylotting...
