Are you a "Singstar"?

Singstar 80's - Singstar 80's on ps2

I have a new re-addiction. This time, it's a game on Play Station 2 called "Singstar". It's a karaoke game, with microphones, and you sing songs for points. You can sing with one or more players, just for fun or for points, battles or duets, and even save what you "recorded" and hear what you sounded like. And I call it a "re" addiction, because I used to karaoke regularly, back in the days before kids. lol. There are various Singstar games out there, but I only own 2 of them right now. Singstar 80's and Singstar 90's. You can look up the song titles for each of the games on the official Singstar websites if you're interested. www.singstargame.com I have been getting my sons addicted to the game as well. It started because of our neighbours. They invited us over a few times for Saturday nights, where the adults would drink and be merry, and everyone would take turns playing Singstar. How about you... do you sing karaoke? Have you ever played "Singstar"? Are you any good at singing? What's your favourite genre of music to sing?

Oh stop it Mr Pike! You've belted out a few good 'uns yourself too! Unchained Melody for one and it had a unique twist in there towards the ending as well!

LOL! I wish I'd had the chance to hear you sing. You have such a soothing and delightful speaking voice... I can't imagine it would be bad when singing too. But then again, I know others with great speaking voices (ahemJeffahem) who are AWFUL singers (ahemJeffahem).

I've never played this game before, but I;ve seen others playing and it looks like a heck of a lot of fun! I do enjoy karaoke, but more the online variety, so I'm a member of SingSnap too. It's all just for fun and there are quite a few mylotters on there! If you've never checked it out, you should go and have a look. Stormy's mentioned it too.

I've already seen and commented on a couple of your songs CanadaGal and you've got yourself a good pair of pipes I must say! And yes, I'm a 1972 baby as well. Mr Pike is being most generous with his compliments too (Thank you Mr Pike!), so don't get your hopes up too high! I'm using the name Jimmyboy72 over on singsnap anyway and I look forward to seeing you there some more.

Who are you on singsnap? I'm using the username "Sarcastique". It's also my superhero name for facebook games. I'd love to hear your singing too, fellow year of "American Pie" baby (that's assuming you were born in 72 like me lmao!). As for singstar, yes, it IS a lot of fun. You really ought to try it sometime... the fact it grades your singing against friends is one of the best features (to me).

Hey hon! :) The boys got "Rock Band" for xmas from Santa a few months ago, and we've had fun doing the singing and drums and guitars with that. I've done pretty darn good on the drums... but I played double bass for years, so something about the back beat is very much at home to me.

When I used to drink alky-hol, I sang at Karaoke all the time. But now not so much. The opportunity doesn't seem to come up since I don't hang out in bars any longer. Been married for 15 yrs, so I'm kinda boring now, it seems. I'm told I do a darn good rendition of "Fishin' In The Dark", though. I love classic rock and country, and will sing along regardless of karaoke anyway. But my voice seems to work best with the country songs.

No worries hon. I don't miss having dial up for reasons like that. Hooray for high speed! WOOT!!! I don't know many country songs. I tend to stick to pop rock from the 80s or 90s. I'm not sure I could get the twang right to do country.

Sorry, got disconnected when posting the first response. Then I had to go back outside and do some work. When I came back in, retyped a new one, same shyte different pile. Didn't realize it had actually posted the first time. OOPS! Blasted dialup has been screwing with me all day today. I even paid a bill twice. And it was over $500, so I had to call the bank and have them reverse one of them.

I would love to get singstar or any console for that matter since I don't have any consoles at all besides my PC. I don't like to sing all that much but it would be nice to have that game.

You could do some karaoke singing online if you go to www.singsnap.com ... as long as you have a microphone for your pc, you're all set. I was able to plug in the mic from the singstar game into my laptop.. how cool is THAT??? lol!

I think your son needs to lighten up, and that you should take advantage of singing your heart out whenever he's not around. :) You'll feel so much better for it too.

Yep, I back when I used to drink alkyhol, I sang Karaoke all the time. I've always sang along to my favourite tunes, all my life. My favourite is "Fishin' in the Dark". I'm told I do a darn good rendition of it. I guess you could say Country and Classic Rock, although my voice doesn't lend itself too well to the Rock songs, mostly the Country ones.

I tend to do well with pop rock songs. My favourite being 80's pop, because I was an 80's pop princess. lol. I haven't done karaoke in a bar setting in over a decade. I'm not sure how drunk I'd have to be to do that again. Granted, with the right crowd.. likely not very. LOL!

I love to sing, unfortunately not on key though...lol. Too bad myLot doesn't have audio/video capabilities. Then we could have our own "MyLot Has Talent". That would be cool, wouldn't it? Of course with my singing, it would be closer to the Gong Show.

If Chuck Berris heard me sing, he'd spin in his grave until he climbed out to wield the gong himself.

I like singing karaoke very much and I'm really good at singing. But I have never played "Singstar". I think the game would probably make the points from the accuracy of beat and rhythm of your singing. I like singing rap and pop music especially. We don't make a living on it, so singing is for fun and it's OK.

You don't have to get the exact words to get points... so even little ones who can't read could technically do great. Granted, I've only played it on "easy" level so far. I'm not sure how complicated it gets on medium or hard. Hmmm... I'll have to check that out.. maybe tomorrow, b/c it'll be a rainy day around here.

I haven't ever tried it but a friend of mines family own it and she has told me a ton about it. They are a conservative Christian family that never even had television when we were growing up. So it is weird for them to have it but she has told me how much fun they all have on it. we just bought a Play station 2 a few months ago and I really want to get that and some of the discs. I think I would probably go for the same ones you have..my husband likes the 80's and I like the 90's so that would be great! I sing on my own when everyone is away but i have never sang karaoke in front of anyone...they would all go deaf. But I have always asked my husband to get a microphone jack for the computer so I can sing to songs online jsut to see how it sounds for myself..I don't want anyone else to hear. My husband has a small studio through the computer and he already has a microphone and he is able to record himself or others that sing but it won't work for me because it has to go through the Limewire program that he has so when I sing it just make a blank recording...we just need to buy the smaller jack piece that way it can plug into the back of the computer. I think it would be great fun for the family....

It IS great fun for the family! My sons are 8, 8, and 10, and they play it on their own too. You could hear yourself using the ps2 game, if you're saving it onto a memory card. The only difference with the singstar vs true karaoke, is that on singstar, you have the actual song playing while you sing along (e.g. when I sing Duran Duran's "Rio", it's with the original video playing in the background, and all the usual vocals from Simon and the boys lol).

awww... your friends shouldn't be mean about your singing. If you enjoy singing, then that is what counts most.
