I have a few goldfish that live in a small plastic pond in my backyard. I also have a black and white cat that my family adopted earlier this year. The story of how we adopted our cat is a little bit out of the ordinary. That's because we didn't adopt our cat from an animal shelter or anything. Believe it or not, our cat actually showed up at our house one evening. Our garbage can was sitting at the edge of our driveway to be picked up the following morning. My dad had gone outside for some reason and saw a small black and white kitten next to it as if it was trying to take shelter using the garbage can. We didn't really think anything and figured the cat would continue on its way soon. Later the cat was gone so we figured that it did. Then the next day my dad went into the backyard where the fish pond was to feed the fish and it just so happens that there was the same black and white kitten huddled in the corner of our house shaking and likely near death. So we fed it and ultimately we adopted the cat. Several months later the cat still lives with us. Below is a picture of my cat. But what about you all? What pets do you own and when did you get them?

I have three female dogs, Martha, Esther, and Twix. Twix is also called Mabel. We adopted her, and for some reason my husband likes to give our dogs old lady names. We raised Martha and Esther from puppies and adopted Twix/Mabel from our daughter-in-law and son when they moved out of state. Martha is a Chow/Sharpei mix, Esther is a Chihuahua mix (I'm not sure what else, but her mom was a full breed Chihuahua and Esther weighs over 30 pounds), and Twix is a beagle/sheltie crossbreed. Twix is about half the size of the other two, but she made herself right at home and let them know she wasn't taking their guff! They all get along pretty well unless food is involved, and sometimes there is a bit of jealousy.

Yes, I found it is very hard to let different dogs get along very well. It is amazing that your dogs can get along well. My pug is 9 years old and my sister own a puppy Chihuahua, we bring them to my mum's house to have a gathering, but they two never can have a good moment, my pug will run away when the puppy comes near, and I found that there's a bit of jealousy between them. When I play with the puppy, my pug will show upset and refuse to eat. If I hug my pug, the puppy will run to my pug and go straight to my pug's nose, it likes the puppy attacks my pug and my pug will then run away. It is very annoying to watch them every moment, at first we thought they can have good accompany with each other, but it is not going to happen now.

As far as our "pets", we have two dogs and a cat. I say "pets" because we own a farm, so there is livestock here also, but they aren't really our pets. The outside dog and the cat are both mine. The other little dog is my partner's dog. She is a jack russell terrier, and that's why she is his dog and not mine. She's way too high strung for me, and has absolutely no manners what so ever. Both my cat and dog listen to me, and have a pretty good understanding of what is okay for them to do and what they should stay away from. I don't allow my cat to get on furniture, tables, counters, etc...and he is good about not getting on those things most of the time. He tries every once in a while to push his luck, but I usually catch him. Overall, he is a very well mannered cat, and is obviously my favorite pet.

We only have a dog, she is a flat coated retriever and is now four years old. We actually found her on the side of the road a little over three years ago. I was heading out to pick up my kids from their friends and as I was coming up the hill she ran out in front of me and I almost hit her with my car. So I got her into my car and took her to my friends house and we looked for the original owner and no one claimed her so we decided to keep her and now we have had her for years and couldn't imagine not having her in our lives. She is an awesome dog, she listens and is amazing with the kids. My kids will climb and maul all over her and she lays there and soaks it up. This is our first pet as a family and I think she is a perfect fit for us and it is great that we are able to have such a great dog as our first pet.

Currently I have 1 pitbull female by the name of Peaches. She has to be one of the most goofy but loving dogs I think I have ever had. She is full of energy. When I let her in from outside, she uses my living room as an obstacle course. She flies over the back of the couch and hits the floor. She then runs into the kitchen and slips in to the wall. Then she returns to the living room where she runs around the coffee table and jumps onto the couch. Then she decides she wants to be a lap dog and cuddle with you. We used to let her sleep in the bed with us until she got to big. She is 2 years and we purchased her in January 2007. She was a welcome home gift to my fiance. She loved her when she was a puppy, but now she considers her to be too big and slobery. Unfortunately we are about to give her to my family. We have a 5 month old and Peaches is a lil too wild for him. We know that she will be well taken care of.

We get lots of pets that way, we live in the country by a creek and for some reason people think there animals will be better off if they drop them by a creek. I keep 3 or 4 cats and 1 or 2 dogs and find homes for the others as best I can. Many become so wild we can't tame them these don't seem to live very long, the coyotes and foxes kill them. Glad you were able to give yours a fine home.

What a lovely cat! I love cats ,maybe its because I owned several cats in the past. When I was in high school, I used to pick up the cats someone abandoned on the street and brought them home. Cats are lovely creatures, they chase the butterflies, they took a nap on my knees, they looked into my eyes when I touched their fluffy heads.Anyway ,they brought much happiness to my life.

Pets are something that add real value to life. If you want to enjoy in some different way then have pets. I have a dog and really is a source of energy for me. He wakes me up in the morning by his bark and then when I come back from office the exitment that he feels fills energy in me.

I don't see a picture of your cat, but I bet its cute (almost all animals are) My hubs and I have 3 adopted pets. My sister got a kitten from her brother in law and ultimately spent 8 years trying to get rid of her as they didn't get along. When I moved in, I took her over and so here she is 11 years old and a wonderful companion. Our next pet is a little male cat (16 months now) whom I rescued from the outdoors in winter. We figured he was one of the farm kittens and that he had wandered away from the barn and his mama. (He would have been between 8-10 weeks old at most) We brought him to the vet and they found out he had a respiratory infection and an eye infection. We bathed him, nurded him to health and then his next checkup he was given his shots (had to do 3 sets for him) and also found out he has a bad heart murmer. The heart murmer is why we havent got him fixed yet, so of course, he sprays. They want $300.00+ to fix him and up until now, we didn't have that kind of money. Our last pet is a rat. She is a little over a year old now and we adopted her from my daughter.

I have two small rabbit. They are full white and looks very beautiful. I just love them. They are very cute. They jump around around from room to another. They also eat briskets. Is so funny you must see it. I am glad to have them. Being a rabbit owner I will say they are the best because they eat plant leaves which you don't need to bye. They will not bite you. They will not spread any kind of disease. They also don't crap here and there and does not smell mad.
