A New Flu? The Swine Flu! OMG!!

Today I read that there is a new type of flu that is around. It is the Swine Flu and it is a combination of swine flu, bird flu, and the human flu. OMG! Can you even imagine how horrible this must be if it is a combination of all three? It's still unclear how the current victims caught the virus. The CDC said none of the infected people were in contact with pigs, which is how people usually catch swine flu. And only a few were in contact with each other. They say it's not a cause for public alarm as the the people that were recently affected all have recovered. The cases were in California and Texas. Also, they are working on a cure, including antiviral medications which seem to work against the virus. The CDC said officials believe this current strain can spread human-to-human, which is unusual for a swine flu virus. I sure do hope they develop a vaccine for this and it doesn't become a major problem here. It just struck me and scared me reading about this. Have a nice day and happy myLotting!!!

i too heard of this and am wondering about it. i wonder if it will become a pandemic and be as bad as the one in 1918 (the spanish flu) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1918_flu_pandemic i am sure i woouldnt last through it because i have a myriad of health issues too. i heard there are cases in mexico as well as a couple of us states, not here in canada (yet).

Actually this has been around for a while..probably 10 years ago it was going rampant. it's the only flu shot I have had in 37 years.....and I was sick all winter from the vaccination....but I see many in Mexico are dying from it! Yikes!

This happened to my friend in the late 70's. About 3 in the morning he was working on an assignment that was due and he got real ill and woke his parents up. First his kidney's shut down then everything else followed after those quit until he was gone and it all happened so fast after he got ill. He didn't even survive until sunrise. Glad that you were only sick from it and nothing bad happened.

Yeah, Mexico doesn't have the same kinds of health protections that we have.

It must have something to do with the way a farmer treats his swine, if they are raised humanely and given the proper care and food then there shouldn't be a problem. Right?

I am in Texas and I haven't heard this latest news, I guess the saying is correct, always the last to know. haha I remember when there was a swine flu scare that went around years ago and a friend of mine got the shot to prevent him from getting it when it was offered at his college. The shot ended up putting him in the ICU and him not surviving. Let's hope nothing bad comes from this flu.

I knew it!! I searched for the flu and the myLot search engine didn't find anything. So I started my own discussion just now. Sorry, dear. They should fix this search engine. I'll be back and respond as soon as I find out what my dog is whining about.

They say that the mind is the first thing to go! I forgot that I responded to this last night. Since then I've been thinking and I'm quite sure it's not out of the realm of possibility that this is a manufactured virus. I mean, what are the chances of swine, bird and human flu combining? And in Mexico, our border country? Guess I'm losing my marbles, or at least my memory! (Gus was whining because it was time for me to eat breakfast-I forgot. He usually gets a bite of toast and it was way overdue!)

I had no idea that Mylot was ever a search engine, I'd always thought it was just a wonderful chat forum.

Hey schulzie! I read this too and I thought it was really scary! I don't understand how it could be so contagious! How many people are in contact with pigs? It didn't say that it comes from ingesting so that isn't the cause! The bird flu was bad enough! The human flu is bad enough! That's all we need is another strain to worry about! I do hope they sort this out and find a vaccine quickly! This is getting so out of hand now!

Well i'll make sure to spend more time on Mylot then, instead of the outside world! Who knows, Mylot could be saving my life without me even knowing it!

There was a swine flu scare in the early 80's, too. It doesn't kill pigs but it does kill humans. California and Texas isn't surprising as there were 60 cases in Mexico recently and our borders are like sieves. I think we'll be seeing a LOT of swine flu cases, unfortunately. I hope it's not as bad as I suspect it might be. From what I read it doesn't spread from person to person, but that's the old strain and not this new one.

There are also people in New York that have it as they went to mexico on spring break. It will be no fun that is for sure. People panic and all. The masks that they are wearing are a good idea if you have to go to Mexico. You have a better day. And have happy thoughts. Your friend onlydia

I just saw a news report on our local station WCCO tonight on it. They stated that we're probably not going to see it here because the 8 people in the US who have had it, were cured with medication. I think they did a good job of not spreading a panic though by outlining what was occuring in Mexico, which is sad. Namaste-Anora

although it is Swine Flu,it is impossible to blame pigs.who have to be blamed for this?human being,i think.the development of human's industrialization process changed the world very much and all kinds of natural life-form became man-intervented

Apparently this swine flu outbreak causes a huge threat. Cases are showing up in this country and other parts of this hemisphere. This strain of flu wasn't known to infect humans, and now that it has there is potential scientists aren't prepared. Lets hope that government and health officials of the world can work together to prevent a pandemic outbreak!
