I've been working as a transcriptionist for like a year now and it's doing well for me. I know that there are so many kinds of transcription types like medical, legal, general, business but I think this industry is getting weaker and weaker all the time. Do you think this business will last for a long time?

I am a medical transcriptionist and I don't see this being a lasting career. I like the work, but the pay continues to drop due to offshoring and VR. The market is also becoming saturated by new grads who are willing to work for less just so they can get their foot in the door, which brings down pay for everyone. I will not take a pay cut and if rates continue to drop, I will be leaving the MT industry altogether. I do not see the same issues in the general or legal field. Those that I know that do general and legal and do good work have plenty of work and get paid a very good rate. I have been thinking about picking up some general work again to supplement my MT wage.

Yeah. I agree with you. The industry just keep dropping and dropping. we can't just wait till it's gone. We have to do something about that.

I was looking into entering the medical transciption industry but after reading this I'm a little weary. I want to continue my education and thought this was worth investing into but I guess I will have second thoughts. Thanks for the insight.
