What doesn't big government do?

Big Government doesn't create jobs, it creates red tape. Anytime a private company is hired by the government, they must rewrite their rules and SOP raising the cost of business by far more than normal to fit the government's rules. Big Government won't fix the housing crisis, it caused it. If the government hadn't pressured and forced banks to give home loans to morons who couldn't repay them, this never would have happened. Big Government can't make a business give customers what they want. Customers do that by refusing to purchase what they don't want. Businesses that fail to serve their customers lose them and get replaced with businesses who know how supply and demand works. Big Government doesn't care about the people, it cares about keeping itself in power. If it cared about the people our president would have spoken seriously about the tea party goers and their concerns. Instead, he did nothing more than repeat the same garbage we've heard the last few months with nothing new about what will be done to better our situation. He threw a few bones to the crowd by talking about how he wanted to help people who are struggling. The only "help" I see from him is helping himself to GM, Chrysler, Citibank, and any other corporation he feels the government can absorb. Fill me in on the things I left out. What else doesn't big government do?

Not only does the government not create jobs, it also does not create wealth. It can only redistribute wealth, and by so doing punishes the successful. Big government does not offer security, only slavery.

Big government doesn't pay any attention to what the people want. It thinks it can do anything and knows better what the people need ratter than what they want.

Big government indulges in torture. Big government invades privacy. Big governments indulge in censorship.

I appreciate the response, but the question was "What DOESN'T big government do". It is because many people seem to think that making government bigger and giving it more power will create jobs, fix the housing crisis, give everyone free healthcare, etc. I'm interested in telling people that it won't do such things. What it does do is something I'll address later.

Big government doesn't do very much right at all, it doesn't care about the individuals it claims to serve, it doesn't spend money wisely, it doesn't run efficiently, and it doesn't cherish the freedom of he people it is supposed to serve - it actually sees individual freedom as an obstacle to it's agenda.

Here's another thing that big government doesn't do: Big government doesn't not suck.
