Does Anyone know the true meaning behind our dreams?

I've heard that when we dream it's our subconcious working out our problems while we sleep...I've had some of the weirdest dreams over the last few years or more that I don't get what they really mean... I'm just waiting on my divorce to be finanlized and I find my ex husband in my dreams once in awhile like nothing ever happened and everything is ok? Could this be my hearts and minds way of moving forward and letting go?

It's a little more elaborate than that. We never have the *exact* same dream twice... there are changes, sometimes very subtle ones in our reoccurring dreams, even if we don't notice. So what's going on in these dreams? Are you boarding an airplane? Driving off of a bridge? What color of clothes are you wearing? ... Very simple little things often have symbolism.

I really don't notice the color of clothing I'm wearing but we are in the same home together even though the home looks much different then where we have lived and we are together I'm making supper for him or his lunch for work...It's really strange!

Perhaps the desire to wish things would have turned out differently? Perhaps the need to move on while having the need for familiarity? (Being afraid to face change alone)

Dreaming is a strange thing. Very strange that in your dreams you see stuff that is possible to happen in real life. I don't think anyone will ever understand dreams as it is so random. It's a part of life I really adore.

Somtimes I rather live in my dreams then reality cuz when I'm going through a hard time I feel like I'm in a constant nightmare!

dreams can be a manifestation of our subconscious thoughts. whatever we have often thought of, whatever we have been recently experiencing, whatever has not been resolved in the past... they tend to creep back at the back of our minds and manifest itself in a dream. this is just my thoughts, btw. i've had weird dreams and sometimes hard to explain. i've had recurring ones too... before. now, i try to pay close attention to my dreams coz all my dreams are so vivid you could actually feel and touch the person in the dream. and my dreams often meant something real. if it bothers you much about your dream... then try to remember some of the stuff in your dreams and write them down. does it make sense? is anything somehow connected to your real life? if there is, check it out. if there isn't... then perhaps you have just been in a lot of pressure and quite tired. the body wants to rest but the mind is still very much active... and hard to hold down.

must be it then. sometimes we really need the closure for us to move on. i don't know how to read other's dreams... i can only read mine. but if you have written down some of those dreams... i'll try to help if i can... in reading what's in them. (perhaps a pm will do.) i know how much dreams can bug us if we don't have any inkling on what's it's all about. just let me know if i can be of help and i'll try. :)

I remember growing up I could remember my dreams more in detail then I can in the last few years but I think it has alot to do with my sleeping patterns so I'm going to definatly try and remember them more write them out and see what I can figure out I know it has to do with my ex husband so it could be some unfinished things between us I'm positive on that as he won't talk to me and help me have the closure I need!

My daughter has a dream book and I took a look to see if I could find something in it for you, but it is so detailed that I couldn't find anything about this subject. I looked under ex-husbands and nothing. I looked under past relationships, and nothing. I looked under past loves and nothing. Sorry I can't help you, I don;t know what else to look under. I don't believe the dream book anyways though, to be honest with you. I have looked up some of my dreams and nothing in it has happened, that explained my dream. Some of the things they say is a bit crazy, to be honest. Like dreaming of baby poop, all over your hands and sheets and whatever, trying to clean it up and it smears all over, in the book it says that means you will be coming into money. Now come on, what does that have to do with money. The reason I tell you about this one is because I have that dream all of the time, and I have never come into money. And I don't even have any babies or am around any. I haven't changed a babies diaper for at least 15 years. So I really don't believe that dreams have any meaning but it is just something that we were thinking about subconciencely and not knowing it.

I think you might be right. Like I said in another comment to you, take some time for just you right now. Do something just for you that you enjoy, whatever it is. Even if it is to just go for a walk to let some stress out.

I honestly think that the dreams that you are having lately are your way of letting things out. Since he left he has avoided you like the plague and hasn't given you the answers you have needed to move on. Maybe in your "dream state" it is your way of telling him the things you have wanted and needed to say, and/or ask him those things and hear it from him! It could also be that even in your mind you know it's over and the divorce is in, but your heart hasn't quite let go and gotten there yet. In time I know you'll get there though, and you'll be happy again :)

Hi I have tried a lot interpreting my dreams. But all failed. Actually as per psychological researches dreams are your sub conscious thoughts. Try keeping your pathetic thoughts out while sleeping. This might help you a lot! Cheers, forcashksd

What you heard is true.Basically your subconcious mind never sleeps And by way of dreams it relaxes you of your daily stress. Some people do not remember what they saw in dreams and think they don't dream.Dreams are seen when you are in light sleep or REM(random eye movement)stage. What you saw of your ex husband is what your subconcious mind wants but what you want exactly is up to you because you have to be with him in concious stage not unconcious.

My dream tended to be focused on imaging things and ideas which somehow strange it may sound, went into a focused story like the cartoons or movies showed. I would perhaps be asleep and wonder off into this movie or cartoon where what I wanted to achieve happened, or things that were on my mind.

Dreams come from the activity of the brain. This is simple to understand if you can believe in this very basic fact: your body might sleep, but your brain is an insomniac. You might be permanently staining your overpaid Tempurpedic-type pillow with drool but for the eight hours a night you do that, your brain is drinking a French Vanilla Mochacuppachinalatte with three extra packets of sugar while reading Go Ask Alice to better understand why you (the body) suddenly don’t feel like playing basketball anymore. During your brains everlasting activity, you tend to think of different things. It’s difficult for one person to break down what everything your brain comes up with means,so instead I, and I alone, will take care of explaining each unique characteristic.

Thank you for the insight to that...I thought that it might be my brains way of working things out while I sleep!

I've been dreaming about the same thing for quite a while now, and I have no idea what it means. It takes place at a swimming pool, but instead of the deep end being something like 10-12 feet deep, it's more like 25-40 feet deep. For some reason, I always get bothered by these dreams. Or, if it isn't a swimming pool, I consistently dream about being at a water park that's either totally deserted, or have a very few people in them. In either case, I always wake up feeling sad and depressed, and I have no idea why.

One of my responses did tell me that there are dream books out there maybe that would help us both figure out what our dreams mean...Maybe like me you have a fear of being alone or abandoned?

Ya, do agree with you that dream is one of the effectof our subconcious working out our problems or it's due to the matter we've been always thinking about it. There're many times i've dream about something realted to my daily life or about my friends, but soon after i wake up from sleep i'll forget what is the dream about. However, i've never figure it out what is those dreams means behind.. Good luck! :)

The most logical theory behind dreams that I have heard is that dreaming helps the brain sort out data. During the day our brain records EVERYTHING that we see, hear, touch, taste and smell. We can't focus on all of that input at once because we would not be able to focus on what we are doing and function, so the brain sifts through all of its unused data at night to see if we missed anything important. That is why you will dream in detail about a person or subject that you had only a fleeting thought about during the day. Basically, this means that the brain is 'taking out the garbage' so our minds can stay clear. That's why people who are not allowed to get dreaming sleep still feel fuzzy headed and tired even though their body got to rest.

Thank you for your insight on that...I know that I can dream but also have problems staying asleep but do fall enough into a deep sleep to dream...really confusing me lol!
