What can we do?

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. --Mother Teresa Here Mother Teresa reminds us that we can all do something to make this world a better place. Let's hear you suggestions, no matter how small.

One of my morning prayers is to be aware of any little gift that I can give each day. If you don't stop and notice you miss it and it's the stop part of this that I ave trouble with.

Pose- My suggestions thus far this year have been that each one of us simply help our neighbor. If we all helped the man/woman next to us just think of how much better things would be. For myself, I've been involved in our community watch, getting to know those who live in our building, and so forth. I work on another site that provides help to others via online sources, so I do research for that once a week and post links to shelters, helplines, etc. My main duties though come with my clergical duties of High Priestess. I try to help all who come to me in the best fashion I can. I have learned quite a bit from the students I've taught. Namaste-Anora

I know it sounds trite, I know it! But the Golden Rule...If we could just treat others how we want to be treated. But since that isn't followed, we just have to take advantage of opportunities around us. We don't have to start with high aspirations. We can think local. See what volunteer openings are available, ya know? I volunteered two years ago to be a Big Sister. I was heartbroken when they said after my interview that they couldn't let me be one because I was so sick. I'm not contagious, but they were afraid I wouldn't be able to keep my committments if I had a little sister. Another thing that is perhaps minor, but I was at my parent's house when I noticed there was a larger amount of litter in their neighborhood than normal. This was last summer. It is such a pretty place to live, and it seemed a shame to just let the garabage fly by in the wind. So I got a trash bag, a pair of gloves to keep away germs, and started picking all the litter up that I could find. It may not have saved the world, but I felt like I had contributed something.

Hi AmbiePam, Sorry but it looks as if I missed your comment earlier, but I thank you for responding. You can be certain that you did make a difference and continue to do your part. I also agree about the Golden Rule and I don't think we should ever stop talking about it because nothing else makes as much sense. Blessings.

Donate, donate, donate.....even if it's just a box of mac and cheese to the local food shelf. If you have anything extra to share with someone less fortunate then it all adds up. Right now the food shelves are hurting....even a box of mac and cheese could make a difference right now in somebody's life.

Well, I try to do my part. I recycle. I use corn to heat my home, which is an annually renewable resource unlike trees for a woodstove. I compost. We mostly produce our own food, instead of buying it at the store. When I do buy at the store, I use boxes to bring it home instead of plastic bags. And I buy in bulk to reduce extra packaging.

indeed, I believe that everything that we do can always have an impact not just here on earth but also in life's eternity. Thus, we do things for the betterment of this world no matter how small it is. For instance, giving out our smiles can give such a great help for the humanity.

I had never heard this quote before, but I think that Mother theresa is absolutely right about a missing drop in the ocean. I once had a Theology teacher at a Catholic highschool (I'm not Catholic, but I like the school so I went there anyway), that "everything we do makes ripples, just as dropping a tiny pebble in the ocean makes ripples." She's right!

Hi itsmevinoda, Thank you for commenting. I'm sorry that you have such a low opinion of politicians in your country. Is there no one that you feel you can trust? In any case we must do what little we can ourselves. Blessings.
