The Summer heat is at its peak with the temp going as high as 45 degree in some cities like Hyderabad and Jaipur. In my own city we have been having extremely sultry days and one is forever looking out for thirst quencher...Besides the best drink of all 'Water' I like to drink Tender coconut water, Lassi ( YUM) , Sugar cane juice, and Shandy .. What is your favorite drink(s) on a really hot day...

I think my vote will go to butter milk, which is also called Lassi and second one could be coconut water, which is not easily available at my place. Sugar cane juice is also a good refresher, provided it is extracted hygienically.

Cocunut water or butter milk are the best options in summers. For the past few days, weather here is bit cooler and temperature has not risen to 44 degree, as it did on 30th April.

Hi deepak, thanks a lot for your response ! Butter milk is really refreshing on a hot day, also sweet lassi...we have plenty of tender coconuts down south and it is one of the safest drinks to have and very refreshing too...I am sure North India is sizzling now

I think the Summer months are becoming more and more intolerable all over the country. Bangalore which used to be known as an AC city has become like a furnace now during summer, and it is necessary to have an AC here to beat the heat...

Hi Kiran, I was thinking of you and why I am not able to see you too much these days when I stumbled on this discussion.I have missed this one.Actually , there has been a problem with my connectivity and it has been 'in and out' for quite some time. I like lime juice with some salt and sugar added to it Kiran and it must be well chilled or with some ice crushed into it.This is my favourite iced drink for the summer.I changed my photograph in my blog Kiran.Have a peep.

Yes Kiran Ihave tried all sorts of combinations[with black jaggery[known as panai vellam], ginger, dried ginger and jaggery , combinations of orange, lime and sweet lime juice --I try all concoctions and present it with a great flourish and loud announcement 'Mocktail'; I rely on my precious son to go gaga about anything that I make.

Hi Kiran, Here there was raining yesterday and the temperature got down from 40 degree to 20 degree on yesterday evening. Yes there was much relaxing with the down of temperature. In summer intake of sufficient water is very important. My son is taking Lemon juice to his school as their teacher is advising the same. Yes it is good for summer. We used to take mango juice (now the season of mangoes and fruits are available in reasonable rate), water melon, Lassi etc. I don’t like Sugarcane juice.

Hi Sreekala, thanks a lot for your response- I agree that we need to take a lot of water during summer months, or for that matter at any time. Lime/ lemon juice is another refeshing juice, I add a handful of mint leaves and crushed ginger to Lime juice along with honey, and it tastes really great..

Hi Kiran On hot sulty summer days, the best (after water of course) are cool milk shakes and lassis. In one way its better coz this is the time when my son doesnt create a scene while having milk...I take cold milk, put in some Complan/Bournvita or whatever and a yummy milk shake is ready. I also make a lot of mango lassi at home (since this is the mango season) and we also have mango panna which is a very cooling drink. What is Shandy?

Coconut water/drink is a very healthful choice and I think that I would prefer that if it were fresh since it helps clean the stomach/intestines as well hydrate me :) And it tastes really good when served fresh and chilled :D I think my second choice would be cold barley tea :D Thanks for the response on my discussion!

i prefer water first. its very important that we drink lots of water. apart from it i prefer to have fresh fruit juice. when i say 'fresh fruit juices', i mean juice made a few minutes before from fruits directly. Canned fruit juices are a strict NO. as they contain preservatives and other additives which again is not good for health. Tender coconut is another favorite of mine, then comes fresh sugar cane juice - plain, with lemor or ginger. butter milk - again plain, or mixed with chilli, curry leaves, coriander leaves and ginger. there are many more, but for now i remember these only.

I really prefer water, but since it can't be the answer... lol... My choice would be an Iced Cafe Americano. It's perfect for that cold drink fix while it's terribly hot. I love it because it also gives me my caffeine fix. I'm lucky that most of the Coffee Shops that I frequent can serve my Cafe Americano chilled.

Looking at all the responses, I feel like having something really cold to drink..;) For me, nothing beats the heat like H2O.Second on my list would have to be Tender coconut water, coz i don't want it to be too salty.Airated drinks, sweet drinks and salty drinks make me more thirsty. So that list is a no no for me. So lots and lots of water is what I like to beat the heat.
