lead by example. Volunteer in the local schools, become a mentor, work at the soup kitchens, tutor a child in a subject that is hard for them, limit their internet time and increase their outside time. Make your home a peaceful environment (you would be amazed how much this will improve your life as well as all who you meet.) Smile more, grump less Be nosy and go in your child's room without permission to look for things that should not be there. (most parents claim that they had no idea that their kid had the kind of things that could cause damage to others.)

Thats some very good advice but what happens when you are not around your child...Do you ever think about what your child may be doing or if your child is behaving how you taught them to behave....

of course. Trust is an issue but it is to be earned not just given. I also like to think that with a good foundation (and knowing that there will be consequences if they mess up) The kids I know should be fine.

Parents need to stop trying to be their child's best friend and be their parent. Teach them that there are consequences to their actions and that they can not just do as they wish. We have lived through a generation of lets protect our kids from everything, every child gets a trophy, every child wins, every child makes the team and well now we have a generation of children that have a sense of entitlement. they do not think they have to work for anything and if they get in trouble mommy and daddy will solve the problem. I think that organized sports and activities are a great thing, i think that parents need to be involved in their kids lives, to know where they are, to know their friends, who their friends parents are and to set rules in place for them to follow. Protect your children by teaching your children right from wrong that every action has a reacation and that you can not go through life getting everything you want with the snap of your fingers.
