It's a little early for a rate hike!

United States

Last year this time, every driver in the US and around the world was hyperventilating because gas was climbing well above the $3 mark (I live in NJ which has some of the lowest gas taxes in the US and has a large port that receives much of the crude imported into the US) and everyone felt the need to drop their gas-guzzling SUVs. I was in a panic because while driving yesterday, I saw prices ranging from $2.05 to $2.17 a gallon! At first I was panicked, then I remember--Memorial Day tends to start the summer driving season! But it's only Mother's Day, so I'm thinking it's a little early for gas to take a 10 cent hike per gallon! I suppose it's good I got a lead on a job much closer to home...I was driving 12 miles one way and the car needed some repairs, so it was costing me a fortune! So how much is gas around you? I'm at $2.05 a gallon at the nearest gas station.

Here in Canada we pay for our gas by the litre. Right now it's about .92 a litre. My math sucks, so not sure what that translates to your costs, but it's a damn sight lower than it's been in a couple of years now. In fact, the government actually sent us a rebate cheque the other day for 20% of the annual insurance costs of our Toyota...............their way of thanking us for buying a fuel efficient car last year! LOL Go figure! Prices go up on gas and the government gives out rebates on cars! Too funny.

I had to look up the conversion...one gallon = 3.785 liters. So if you're paying .92 a litre, that would translate to $3.4822 a gallon! (and we're not even getting into US dollar vs. the Canadian dollar--it's Sunday!). Our economy (as the world knows) took a nosedive...I am wondering how we're (as taxpayers) for all of these bailouts for companies that just don't know any better?! But that's a lot to pay for fuel--good thing you bought that Toyota!

Holy moly, we Canadians are paying a lot for gas! Wowza! But then our populations distribution is much lower than yours, so I guess our prices are higher because the 'revenue' base is smaller than in the States. And frankly scorpio, I'm glad I live here. We aren't feeling the 'recession' nearly as badly as you all are, and I don't envy you a bit. I was really pissed when the hubs bought the Toyota without consulting me. NOW, I'm so glad he did. I just wish we didn't have such a high monthly loan payment for it! lol

Well, don't feel bad, we're paying around 84 cents a litre here. And yes, May 24 weekend, the prices usually get jacked up for the tourists to come up here and visit. Rotten b@stards!

Yee gads, and here I was considering fleeing the US for Canada...guess not now! Unless of course you have some really attractive single (they must be single!) men...I'm tired of being lower than the crud you walk through on the way to the door! I'm just feeling down, I guess I should instead go count my blessings (and check out some of the Rom goat pics you posted--they're cute!).

With all the conversions from litres to gallons and CAD to US dollar, that is almost $4/gallon! I better not think about it that way. Geesh that's awfully high.
