Cooking With Garlic

I will admit the smell of garlic is horrible. However, I think when you include some garlic in your meals it is actually quite tasty. I made spaghetti tonight and included three cloves of garlic when I browned the hamburger meat. It gave the sauce that extra kick of flavor I was looking for. My whole family enjoyed it. So do you use garlic in your cooking or can you not get past that horrible smell? If you do use it what kind of dishes do you make with garlic?

We love the smell of garlic, actually. But then we find alot of smells most people hate as awesome. The smell of cows and horses, for example, even their manure, we find quite awesome. Same goes for compost, and some other plants people don't like the smell of. We cook with garlic alot, so almost everything.

I hate garlic, I really do. Though, it's not like I am a vampire or anything.. Or am I? =O Anyways, yeah. I dislike garlic, but my little brother loves it. Why? I have no idea. I don't like the smell, and I don't really like the taste either. But, I do cook with it. Usually in pasta dishes(Like spaghetti), or on/in some breads. Other than that.. I really don't like it.

I use garlic in a lot of dishes such as mashed potatoes . I buy plain instant mashed potatoes, then come home and use garlic powder, oregano, basil, milk and butter. I boil the milk, garlic, oregano, and butter instead of using the package's recommendation of adding boiling water. it gives the potatoes much more flavor. Instead of using plain salt, I use garlic salt on things like french fries and sandwiches.

Actually, I love the smell of garlic, except from other people's breathe or if it is in their pores, other than that garlic smells very good. Yes, I like to use garlic when I cook, I actually made garlic shrimp for my husband yesterday. I try to always keep garlic in the house, never know when I will need it when cooking. And yes, garlic in spaghetti sauce is very delicious. YUM

Like you, I don't really like the garlic smell, especially on my hands after using it while cooking. However it tastes simply fantastic with any type of food. Ever tried it while frying potato fries?? I really love it. Anyway, you mentioned pasta. One of the simplest recipes (and tastiest, in my opinion) is the Italian pasta aglio e olio (garlic and oil) where you just put garlic, olive oil and the pasta. You can also add peperoncino to it (hot red pepper) and it really tastes great!

We use garlic in just about all we cook, my hubby was born in Louisiana and it is added into all the food except maybe eggs, don't know if there was not anymore tomorrow if food would be the same. We love it. Italian, soups, stews, meatloaf, anything that you put onions in.

I like to cook with garlic however it doesn't agree with me. For some reason I feel like I"m getting reflux or something when I eat foods with garlic in it. And the only thing to cure it for me is usually ice cream and thats one of the many foods that's hard to keep stocked in our house. I liked to put it in spaghetti mainly or in any dish that needed a lil something I'd give it a whirl.... like mashed potatoes YUM!

I don't find the odor of fresh or cooking garlic objectionable at all. I find it rather appetizing. I am particularly fond of it in a salad dressing. If you aren't used to it, I think maybe 3 cloves is a little strong. Are you cooking it at too high a heat? I know if the garlic gets burned it can be a little too strong. Garlic presents an odor problem when only one person is eating it. If family members don't eat it, then they will notice the smell on their loved one the next day, and it can be rank. If you know you are going to be among folks that don't indulge, probably better not to eat it the day before. Otherwise, there may be a few odd looks. If you know your friends are garlicophiles, enjoy enjoy! They'll never notice!

I agree with you that garlic really smells bad but it can really make a dishes taste a lot better. I use to put a lot of garlic with my pork adobo dish. It is a filipino cuisine wherein pork is cook with vinegar and soy sauce. I usually put a lot of garlic on it because it makes it more tastier. I also put garlic on my spaghetti and other pasta dishes.

I love using garlic in cooking, I put it in corn beef, cut fish, soup, chillies etc I even heard that garlic can prevent certains cancers, so I will grate about two cloves of it and put it in some water and drink it, but do not drink eat the raw garlic on a hungry belly, you can eat it about 3 hrs after meals.

I absolutely love the smell of garlic. It is one of the best spices out there. I use it all the time, especially when I am trying to give an old recipe a new kick. It's great on all kinds of meat!

I actually love the smell of garlic. I think everything I make has at least a little garlic in it. Garlic goes well with most things and it's good for you! I am totally in love with my garlic press, although it is fun to peel it by hand too by just smashing the clove under your hand...the skin comes right off! I also have this tub of dry roasted garlic bits and i sprinkle those on my food at the dinner table....even though the food already has garlic in it...i like to feel the additional garlic crunch! mmm

Yup, I agree that garlic smells terrible. But adding some to any dish will simply enhance the flavor. I use garlic in quite a lot of dishes - even cooking something simple like stirfried vegetables, adding fried chopped garlic will really make it much tastier! The smell isn't so much as raw garlic too.

I do not really eat garlic but when I smell a fried garlic I always feel hungry. I just love the smell of a fried garlic. I use garlic when for fried rice and other dishes that needs it. I do not eat it but I like it when it is crispy with peanuts.

I love garlic and use lots of it. You should however add garlic late in the cooking process or it will lose most of it's beneficial properties. In a stew or stir fry I add garlic not more than five minutes before the dish is ready. I love garlic bread and sometimes use finely chopped garlic in olive oil to spread on the bread and then put it under the grill or lay it on a tin foil tray on the barbecue. When possible I use a Chinese variety of garlic which is like a small onion. It does not have the individual cloves and is much easier to skin.

we love garlic here, i use it all the time when cooking. i love the smell of it, if i'm going to cook stir fry, i put lots of garlic in it, chopped it, fry it first till it gets brown then add the next ingredients. peanuts here that are sold by vendors, should have lots of fried garlic in it, because most of those that buy asks for garlic in their peanuts. we also have garlic chips, they are good to eat. not only is garlic good for cooking it is an herbal medicine too, which is good for those with high blood. you can even buy garlic capsule, and garlic tablet. but others, like the father of my friend, chew two cloves of garlic when he feels like he's having high blood pressure.

Garlic is the main ingredient and the most important if we want to cook, most of the recipe have included the garlic as the main ingredient, because of the aroma of garlic and prevents most of diseases like high blood and diabetes.

I love garlic to the point where I might be obsessed with using it. My mother uses them on spaghetti too. She cooks the spaghetti, drains the water then chops about 2-3 cloves of garlic and throws them in a pan with a little olive oil and then puts the spaghetti back and gives it a quick swirl. They are much much tastier.
