When I started using computer in 1999,people all use Winzip. But after several years, most of people around stared using Winrar. Now almost all people around using Winrar. I use Winrar also, but I don't like the format *.rar,I still like the format *.zip. This is because after you reinstall you system, although you have not install any compress software, the windows still can open the *.zip files.

I prefer Winrar to do compress and uncompress file. its software very common by now. The system security is better to than winZip. And again in we compress a file with this, we have better rate compression, we need it if we have bigger size. thats my reason

I am using Winzip and Winrar. I am aware that either of them will open both file formats, but i prefer to use the correct program for each file format, and it also gives me the ability to create either type for files sent to friends etcetera. I did use Winace as well for a while, but there are too few files compressed as .ace to justify the program.

I use IZarc(http://www.izarc.org/features.html). It is free, easy to use and support many files format. IZarc has many features like Drag and Drop support, can convert archive, convert cd images, multilingual, repair broken archive, disk spanning and many more. Although it has many features, most of the time I only use it to extract the contents.

I'm using Winrar too. I think it's pretty much solid. I quit using Winzip long ago because i think Winrar has better compression method. It's quite flexible too and easy to use. Rar files are now used a lot more than zip files. I think it has surpassed zip in terms of being the standard compression file type. Upload sites supports rar files.

I totally agree your comments. I suffered twice after reformatting system in various locations. as i had my some softs and files in rar format. but not having winrar software or internet connection that time. from that day, i am alert. I stopped doing this mistake and nowadays i have winrar with me every time. Winrar is much useful for me in creating password protected file and creating SFX archives. unless i no neeed these options, I just zip the files using winzip.
