Lice Remedy

A few years ago, I had to deal with what I never thought I would have to deal with - lice. I found out that absolutely anyone could bring home lice, and it just so happened that my then 6 year old daughter brought the little nasty creatures home after a weekend trip with some relatives. She then gave it to my then 3 year old son, my husband, and me. I never knew to check the kids' heads because I didn't think I had to worry about them. Well, one day, I noticed how scratchy my son seemed. So, knowing that he had cradle cap in his younger toddler days, I checked his head for that. Instead I was surprised to find some sort of crawly bug...and lots of them! I had no idea what lice looked like, so I immediately searched the web. To my dismay, I found out that my son had lice. Then I checked my girl's head to find the same thing. The next step was checking online for remedies. I felt that they were too young for any of the harsh chemical treatments, so I looked for home remedies. This is what I ended up doing to get rid of them: I bought a huge bottle of cheap Suave Coconut conditioner. Every night, I had each kid take a bath. Right away I lathered on the conditioner - a lot of it. I let this just sit in their hair the entire bath. Then I took a short tooth lice comb and combed the conditioner through. The little guys just fell right out. My husband and I did it ourselves in the shower. It took about a week of baths, but during each bath you saw less and less of them until they were all gone. Does anyone else have their own home remedy to share? Lice are very stubborn, and it would be helpful to get as many tips out there as possible.

I have 3 girls and they got lice last year. It took me 2 1/2 months to get rid of it completly. What finally worked was mayo and a shower cap. its a little hard to get out, but worth it. i used it 2x a week for 2 weeks then once a week for 4 months. my kids told me i was being silly and there was no need to use it that long, but i didnt want it to take any chances. good luck, i hope i helped :P

oh dont forget to go through their hair every day and make sure you wash and dry their bedding every day, the drying is the key factor the heat kills them.

I also forgot to mention the hot air drying. I went through and collected all the stuffed animals once, washed and dried them, then bagged them all until the ordeal was over with. Ugh, it was so much work....I am not looking forward to going through it again. However, with school-aged kids, it's hard to avoid it.

It did this time. It might have worked with any conditioner. I guess I really lathered it on good and left it for a long time to try to suffocate the lice. The conditioner also made it much easier to comb through with the lice comb. I forgot to mention that I also blow dried the kids' hair after because the heat kills them too. Their hair was soft from all the conditioner, so it was easy to comb through and blow dry at the same time.

hi, i only had this lice in my head my niece will sleep beside me,lice can easily go to your hair from the hair who had already, the only remedy i used when i had it was i used short tooth lice comb after i took a bath because lice can not move when our hair is wet,so they are easily to remove from it.i think i only did it for three days before they gone totally.
