Assault by biting lip?

I was on TMZ.com and I was reading an article about Shauna Sand and how she got a permanent restraining order against her ex because he assaulted her by biting her lip.I don't know if it just me or not, but does that not sound crazy to you? But realistically though, if you are arguing and fighting with someone why do you even let them get that close to even bite your lip? It just doesn't make since to me, what do you think?
