i have also experienced this kind of embarrassment before. there was even a time when i wanted to treat my husband for a pair of nice and expensive shoes. when i was about to pay, i couldn't find my wallet in my bag. then i remembered that i have put it in another bag, the one i really intended to use and then i suddenly changed my mind about a few minutes before we left the house. good thing my husband has brought some cash with him :)

I've never done that, but probably only because I generally always check how much money I have and then I calculate it out in the store what exact amount I'll need. But sometimes my friends will invite me to go shopping and I'll go along despite having no money. I just won't pick anything out since I can't pay for it. One of my friends went shopping with me though and forgot her money. She had a gift card and thought that the store could magically search for it. The lady tried searching but she misunderstood my friend and thought it was a credit card. After awhile the lady finds nothing and I don't have any extra money to loan my friend. So they told us it was possible for them to hold the items for 24 hours since she spent awhile trying them on already. And then she went back the next day and paid for her stuff and picked it up.
