Rheumatoid Arthritis

I told a couple of youall yesterday that I was going to be out of town today and I was. I got back about 6:30 tonight. What it was, I had an appointment with a rheumatologist in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I was a new patient and it took several hours once I got there. I got a good report, though. He took some x-rays, did some blood work, etc. He said according to my x-rays, it didn't look like I had rheumatoid arthritis. It just looked like the normal wear and tear. However, he has put me on a vitamin d tablet because my vitamin d level was low. He said that my bones were thin and I told him that I was at risk for osteoporosis. My mother also had this. I also take fosamax once a week and one-a-day women's once a day. I think we all hurt all the time. He also said that it's possible that I might have sjogren's syndrome. I started a discussion about this when I first joined mylot. That's why my eyes and mouth stay so dry all the time. He said you can have arthritis with sjogren's, too. The reason why I went to this doctor to begin with was because my regular doctor here in Jasper sent me to him. She sent me to a nurse practitioner in Birmingham not too long ago and she couldn't find any rheumatoid arthritis, either. My doctor here in Jasper said that my rheumatoid factor was high, though, and she thought that my hands looked like I had it. She sent me to this doctor in Tuscaloosa for a second opinion. Anyway, I thought I would share this good news with youall.

Good luck with the vitamin D. I know people who have gotten great relief from aches and pains with this and more energy to go with it. I am glad that you do not have rheumatoid arthritis, that is quite a mess. How are they treating your sjogren's disease?

They're not treating me for the sjogren's. I think because it's not very well known, nobody really knows what to do for it. I hope in the future that there will be something. There is a girl at church who has it a lot worse than I do. She also has lupus and other problems as well. She has to have a glass of water with her all the time. About all I can do is drink a lot of water and use eye drops. I use Restasis Eye Drops twice a day and Systane during the day if I need it. Have a good night and happy mylotting. Kathy.

that is wonderful news... I think in that situation that you definitely want a second opinion and to get good news like that is a big relief. I think that being on the Vitamin D tablet is probably a good idea ... I know I need to take more vitamins.. I have them but I am very bad about taking them. good luck with all that they suggest for you to do and I hope you feel better in the long run!!!

Thank you. I have a daily reminder that has compartments for each day of the week. I don't know if this makes sense or not. I keep my medicines and vitamins in each compartment to remind me that I need to take my medicines for that day. It was my mother's. Kathy.
