How long do you wait before choosing a best response?

People seem to wait different amount of times before choosing a best response to a topic. Sometimes I've gained a best response within hours of replying to a discussion! I will wait until it's been at least a week since someone has replied to one of my discussions before choosing as I feel that people don't post to discussions after the best response has been chosen. Sometimes if it's been a while since I was on mylot I fnd I have discussions from months ago without me choosing a best response! I feel a bit guilty for not having chosen one then... How long do you wait before choosing a best response?

My choice of the best response depends of course to the "best response". i dont wait for weeks. If i receive a response that is well a good one and best fits my discussion, meaning it has a grain of truth, opinion and good idea, i choose it as the best response. I dont think people will avoid discussions who has already a best response, because if you really like that discussion, you wont care if you get the BR as long as you contributed in the discussion and said what is on your mind. Happy mylotting, friend.

This is true I guess, as I have had sometimes had responses after I have chosen a best response although I tend to find that nobody more respondes after a best response is chosen.

Because that is due to what we call "stereotyping".. if people see that there has already been a BR, they tend not to respond anymore even though they have an idea.. But what the heck, being labeled as BR does not automatically generate you a higher revenue.. I believe it still the quality of what you've posted...

I normally wait about a week before giving out a best response. It gives users a chance to participate in the discussion at hand. And it gives me a chance to find one that I like the best, especially if there are a lot of responses.

Yes I find it hard if there's lots of responses to go through and find the best one, takes ages!

I won't choose a best response so soon like some people do, such as few days or even a few hours. Usually I will decide the best response after a week. So at least more people will have a chance to respond to my discussion. It is fair. If I am very busy, I even wait for a longer time to choose the best response. I love China

I think I do the same as you!

I usually wait a really long time before I select a best response. I guess mainly because I want to give people plenty of time to respond. Of course, I did recently select a best response pretty quickly when there was only one post because the discussion itself had been aroun for eight months and has just recently gotten one response to it.

Sometimes you do only get a few responses. If one if good enough for a best repsonse then it's ok.

This is true although sometimes discussions just stop after a while.

I don't always stick to this rule, but I try to wait at least 10 days or until I have five or more responses. I haven't made many discussions, and more than half of them apparently weren't interesting enough to elicit responses.

I have a few discussions as well that don't have responses. Sometimes people just don't seem to respond!

Mylot tell us in the FAQs to wait at least a week before awarding the BR. I wait even longer and sometimes I just cannot award just one so I don't award one at all. I have discussions from over a year ago which are still receiving responses and they are ALL worth the BR

I do sometimes have problem choosing a best response, especially when I have over 40 responses to a discussion I have started. So hard to choose!

I see.. That's how I was when I was just starting here on myLot! But now, I always make myself choose a best response. Hmmm, for me.. I wait for at least 20 responses before choosing the best response. But if there's not that much people responding, then I will choose one even though it still hasn't reached 20 responses yet. Just to be fair. Happy myLotting!

Thanks for sharing! I wait a week because I often don't get to above 20 responses in my discussions, although I have had over 40 responses to discussions that have lasted 2 weeks!

Unless you have an outstanding response which you don't expect to be bettered, I'd say leave at least a week, if not more, before awarding a best response. What I can't live with is when people award a best response to their 'friends,' when it's quite obvious that the response is not the best. Best responses should be just that, not an arrangement where a friend gives you a best response and you reciprocate. And there may be discussions where you feel that you can't pick a best response, so you don't choose one. That's fine as well. Best response is an indication, not a requirement, so don't feel guilty if you can't pick one above the others.

Again this is very true. I often do pick friends for a best response but this is because they have posted the best response. I would never pick them over someone who I didn't have as a friend who had posted a better reply.

Since I just found out what topics mylotters tend to discuss about most I can't really say. I only give best responses when a response was really great. I don't reward people replying with one line even it's the only reply. One thing I do know is that you indeed shouldn't choose the best response to early since that has a negative effect on the chance that you get more replies.
@beki710 (949)

That is true, which is why I wait until at least a week after the last response to choose a best one.

well i think a best response is what you really want to get from responder..if your mind frequency matches somehow with the responder then it must a best response..although people give their own views, suggestion, and opinions. as per as selecting best response i took at least 2-3 days..

Thanks for responding! I often choose someone who I feel is on the same wavelength as me too.

I don't wait too long to give out the best response, usually about 2-3 days.I don't like leaving the discussions unresovled.Maybe i chose it too early, but what does it matter?Of course ,there might be fewer people were going to resoponse to my discussion for i have gave out the best response, but if they really want to discuss something, they wouldn't care the best response too much,i think. Anyway, this depends on everyone's own choice.
