Why is it that when you're driving and looking for an address, you turn down the volume on the radio?

Ok this would seem to be a hard one im thinking we turn down the radio to concentrate and also subconshasly think we may need to ask for directions so therfore we turn it down now before we stop to ask for some :)

Yiu can also see better if you turn down the radio, it is not only a matter of concertration but also, all senses can not work at the same time. Seeing is better when other senses are off.

Agreed! ..When you are trying to concentrate on something, it's in your best interest to decrease as many distractions as possible~

ya know i never thought of that, i do turn down the radio and tell my kids they need to be very quite for a few minutes, or in the winter i even turn down the heater so i dont hear that running full blast either. i think it is an instinct for concentration, i actually dont know anyone who dont do that. that is pretty funny that we do things like this.
