If I talk about myself,I am an average user of english.I can write good english,my grammer skills are also reasonably good but when it comes to spoken english,I am not so fluent in it. There are a few problems regarding tenses,I think & lack of confidence,I guess. I use mylot to improve my writing skills & use one or more sites that can help me with good spoken english. what about you?

My English is great. That's probably because I am a native English speaker (I assume that you're not). English is supposed to be one of the hardest languages to learn because there are so many exceptions to every rule about grammar and spelling. I am not fluent in any other languages, though. I think that people who are bi- or multilingual are awesome!!!!

You are facing the same problem that most of the Indians, who have not got their basic education from convent schools, or rather, any one whose native language is not English, is facing. Mylot is good for improving your writing skills but for improving spoken English mylot or other sites will not help. Fluency comes by practice only.

MY written English is terrible although it may not look bad on the computer, it's only hidden by the spelling and grammar checks that we have. Most of the time people's written English is better than their spoken English as when people speak they are more likely to use slang, but with me it is the opposite way around.

yes you are right there are very few people who are good in speaking & not so good in writing,it happens mostly with the people whose native language is english.so they don't have to practise it.

My wife has the opposite problem you do. She speaks English very very well. Most people when she first begins conversing with them do not realize that English is her second language. She is very gifted in that regard. She speaks with almost no noticeable accent. Her writing though is a different story. She makes lots of mistakes. She recently became a mylotter as well and she is hoping that writing in English more will help her improve. I think that is the key. If you were able to practice your spoken English more it would start to catch up with your written English. I think you would have more success if you listened to English language TV rather than visit more websites. English language tapes or CDs might also help you. Good luck. By the way I agree with you: Your written English is very good considering it is not your first language.

Thanks for your response.I am amazed to know about your wife, how can it be possible that she is too good in spoken english & makes mistakes in written english.you must have been living in an environment where mostly people communicate in english,I guess.
