How flexable are you?

We lead our lives with many habits and time tables. How adaptable are you when something knocks you off your usual schedule ? It messes up my whole day and I have to stop myself from frustration and give myself a good talking to about not letting little things like a missed bus, late for work, missed meal etc ruin my whole day. What do you do in this case?

Hi savypat, Sometimes I'm not flexible at all and let such things ruin my whole day, but I'm learning to do better. After all there is always a good reason even for little things like missing a bus, when we accept that we do much better. Blessings.

I am doing so much better at noticing the little things when the day is not going as planned, by doing this I can lower the frustration and often discover a hidden blessing. thanks

Now this is something I am still working on, but I am getting better! I used to be very rigid when I was younger and whenever something unexpected came along I would fall apart at the seams. Over the years I learnt that, guess what? Life is the unexpected so I may as well train myself to go with the flow instead of getting upset. I do what you do, when something out of the ordinary happens I tell myself that I made the decision to be happy when I woke up and I will choose not to let anything change that resolve. It doesn’t work every time, but it sure helps!

Isn't it wonderful to discover that really the only thing you can control is the choice of how you react. Thanks

I usually give extra time into my daily rituals so I never fall back. LIke i leave for work early. That way if something comes up like a car accident its okay. Then I never put more in my plans then i know I wont get done. If I only have three hours before needing to get home then I dont try to fit everything in and rush to get it done. I just chose the major things and postpone the others. It helps prevent getting stressed out.

I have tried hard to learn the art of allowing for the unexpected. I used to allow it to upset me, so I began trying to look at things differently. I began a blog called A Beautiful Distraction to help me adopt and embrace interruptions as not so annoying. For me, health issues mean some days go better than others, in general, and I remind myself that the train going off the track will happen. It is a given. I now accept that, and try not to upset myself with it. Soon enough, things WILL be on track again : ) Karen
