Are you patriotic?

How much do you love your country? Are you proud to be a citizen of your country? So far for me the most patriotic people I have ever met are the Americans. As for me, I really don't know which country I belong to as I am a mixture of four nationalities. My mother is Portuguese, My father is South African, My grand mother is Mexican and my grand Father is Egyptian. What do you do normally to show that you love your country? What would you tell someone if they asked you "what's so great about your country?"

Wow Jellymonty, that is quite a combination of nationalities you have in your heritage. I am South African with Scottish ancestry. Having been born, schooled, educated in SA, I am a proud and patriotic citizen. We have had our share of bad times (including a bush war) and good times but overall we have worked through them. We are blessed with the best climate in the world and the best variation of scenery. I think because of our healthy and sunny climate we have produced some of the best sports men and women worlwide. I travel a lot, especially to Europe and also in Africa and there is nothing better than good old South African hospitality. We have our problems with crime and dishonest politicians but we have the strength to overcome these "minor" problems. Most of my business associates in Europe would rather visit me in SA than me travel to them. I often brag about our climate, our sports achievements, our hospitality, our infrastructure and our stunning scenery. I could carry on and on but I'll leave that for another discussion or response.

The high crime rate is the one thing of which I am not very proud and the sooner our authorities sort this problem out the better it will be for all. Have you visited South Africa before?

I do have a certain sense of pride about where I come from. I live in the UK and am proud to do so - things are fair here and we live in a democracy. In addition there are a good number of opportunitites available whether or not you come from a rich background. My roots are Indian and I am very proud of that too. I love the rich culture of India, the colours the food, and the festivities.

Dear Jellymonty, I think you must be pretty as you are mix with 4 countries! I am from China, i think i am a patriotic people. Because of my work, i have more chance to talk to people from other countries. Whenever i heard something that they talked about is bad of my country, i start to get angry and argue with them. They said i am too patriotic. It sounds funny, our own people, i mean chinese people, we can talk about the bad things that happen in our country, but we are not allow other people from other country say the bad words. lol

even though my country is not rich I'm still love my country. we still have hope that we can improve our country if all of us including our leaders must learn to love our country. that's why our country cannot go for development because our leader they don't have love for their country.

normally i am not very patriotic or nationalist in relaton to my country!!In fact here there are many problems too and some things that this cna be strange for foreigners!! So my country is famous for some things as fashion ,food or cars..naturally the main of thiese products are built and seold abroad or for the majority in other countries because normally here people have not so much money to spend for example for clothes and somehing like that...so this can be ok but i can se many problem s or difficulties and for that may be i am not so patriotic or nationalist as well

I cant say that i am a patriot of this country because i am divided. I am American and Portuguese. Even though the people of these countries dont like each other i cant choose. So i am both xD
