well im a medical technologist undergrad in a public hospital and have some knowledge of virology and the virus in question. The philippine governmnet is hiding the facts and not letting the people know the real situation. I know that it is not to let mass panic to happen. But ignorance is worse than people panicking. as of now there are more than 5 people infected here and it is now in schools and such and until the governnet does not issue anything, there will be a silent epidemic happening in the philippines. They have susspended classes with one reason: "Swine flu concerns". Well what concerns you, why? Some facts the government is hiding and i hate it. Just hope that when they will issue something, it will not be too late

What is the Philippine government hiding exactly? I know that there are almost 30 people here who had swine flu. I also know that the virus is spreading in schools. I've heard all of these in the news. Is there something more troubling happening?

Well as of today, they are saying to isolate themselves if they have some symptoms which is a good thing. But for me its not enough. I want to here all the facts even if how miniscule it is. I still don't know how it really entered our country

Hello o0jopak0o, This is certainly a "dangerous" topic to discuss- not in terms of it being dangerous as if our accounts are going to be closed down, but as in the swine flu really has expanded... First of all, I must say that it is surprising that the Philippines are doing such a thing- a biggest question is where are you getting your sources? You say you are a medical technologist, but are you basing your opinions off of editorials and articles written by American press organizations? I don't doubt that it isn't impossible- I know Japan has had a few reports of Swine Flu in the past few days, but I didn't know the Philippines were... Anyway! Great discussion- I personally think that in this case, ignorance IS better than nationwide (and perhaps worldwide) panic; have you ever seen an insurgency? Ignorance is certainly not the best solution, but having public panic and outrage would complicate things faster than they would solve them. Kind regards, -Fresh Writing

i think that we are not left unaware of the real situation by the government. they are quite vigilant in doing all tehy can. and they report things immediately to teh public as to how many new cases they were. they are actually not hiding any thing from us. though there are some cases, i think it is still under control or not in that uncontrollable situation. they are still doing and monitoring thngs and keeping it under control. they are taking care or making those confirmed victims under medication. though they asked them to quarantine themselves and themselves treated by doctors. they were in no way treated like animals. they were being checked by the government for their health condition. thoughi don't know if the government is pa ying for their medical bills or what. but it is not like in china liket hey would trap those eople suspected of virus under one building and lte themselves tend for themselves for fear that they would infect other people. we have more human rights and care for people as humans.

I went to my doctor yesterday for prenatal, when the octor check my baby's heart beat she warned me not to go to a crowded places like mall, she mentioned that the H1N1 virus is already penetrating the country and since it is airborn then it will rapidly spread. She also mentioned that no one knows the effect of the said virus for the pregnant women so it's better to prevent it for now. Swine flu cases in the world is very alarming and worriesome to both parents and children and when watching a television the confirmed cases are alarming.Since this is a new virus people will have little immunity or no immunity with this H1N1 at all. The worst thing is that there is no vaccine or medication yet for this virus. Some communities are in panic especially those schools who have confirmed cases.Students who are clearly ill and maybe coughing, sneezing will be advised to go to the clinic discretely. Everyone is advised to stay at home if possible just to prevent the spreading of the virus, and if someone feels something wrong with their system like flu is advised to check and consult with their doctors.

I thought swine flu had just disappeared to be honest. We havent heard abpout it in so long I thought it had just been cured or whatever! That is wrong that the government are hiding it yes I agree lies are worse than panic, at least with panic we know that something is going on!! I live in England and we did only have a few cases of swine flu but it was scary to say the very least!

Who cares, we have no classes again!!! --Just kidding. ;)) Anyway I'm from Tuguegarao. There has been rumors that it's come to us. You're right, ignorance doesn't do us much good. It might even cause more panic (people and their mouths!) Before I get sucked into saying bad things I don't like, I'm just gonna go away. Heehee. ;)
