I wasn't sure how this would pan out because I hadn't done this since my boys were in Boy Scouts - like 15 years ago or longer. But, my husband and I went down to the local grocery store and put our table out with a sign and some information to raise money for my B R E A S T Cancer 3-Day Walk. My husband didn't think people would just hand over money to us because we could have been a fake. Well, fortunately, people had faith in us and we raised about $100 for this event. We're scheduled to be there tomorrow too and I hope to raise at least as much then. I was very excited when someone put a $10 bill into our donation jar - not for a raffle ticket, but just to donate! We got at least one other $10 donation, a few $5, and a lot of $3-$4. It was very heart warming to see people be so generous for such a great cause. I'm only about half way to my goal, but I have a few more fundraisers to go so I think I'll make what I need. Do you give to the people that stand outside of the stores for their group/cause?

For vets...always. I have a ton of poppies and baesball hats I never wear just to support them. If if is kids asking for money to do a sport...no - the should do a car wash or something. Other charities it depends on if I can afford it at the time.

I always felt the same way when they wanted the school kids to sell overpriced stuff and compete to win cheap prizes. Just so not worth it, rather just give them the money.

I do help the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, but not by buying their cookies or popcorn (they make very little money off of that). I'll just give them a donation flat out.

That is wonderful reiny. I hope you do as well even better today. I always give to people collecting for a good cause. I even get my car washed or give money when the children are earning money for things around here.

I was just really amazed how much people actually gave. We hardly got any change at all, it was mostly bills. And the couple $10 bills were really cool! I'll post again tonight to let everyone know how day 2 goes!

Can you do an online donation thing for people that have paypal? I'd think that you would get many donations as people really care about this cause.

Unfortunately they do not take PayPal, it's only major credit cards...

I think we all really want to believe in people, and that is why people trusted you. Sometimes I participate or donate to fundraisers, but other times not. Just depends.

Yeah, I know. It depends on if I have the money most... But I try to help worthy causes when I can.
