You're going to love college! I just finished my freshman year. I made great friends with the people on my floor. You can always walk around dorms and start convos with people who have their dorm rooms open by commenting on something on their room. I also found I connected with people over tv shows that I watch. I don't know if you watch Gossip Girl, but I made quite a few friends talking about it and then we moved on to other topics. Everyone's really nice (at least at my college they are) and are willing to talk and chat. We had free ice cream in our main plaza and I talked with a girl who I had thought come out of the final I had just taken, so I brought that up and chatted about the company who was providing the ice cream. You just have to be open and not being afraid to jump into conversations.

Well you could always make friends in your classes or while waiting for other things (such as in offices, or even waiting for food). I would definitely suggest getting into groups (I joined our dance team) and going to events that are held on campus. We have dance shows and plays going on all the time, you can always mill around and talk to people on what you're going to see/or have seen if it's after. I know some of our Greek groups had glass-painting nights and that was fun, plus it was free. When you're a freshman a lot of the convos you're going to have are about where you're from, what your major is, and what classes you're taking, especially if there are some classes that all freshmen must take.

I didn't worry about making friends in college. I was there to study. You do end up meeting people along the way, especially if there are clubs you can join. But for me I just wanted to learn and get out of there. And 6 years later, I'm finally graduating this week!

I must say that although Academics is VERY important, so is socializing with people. You don't want to be all work and no play...it sort of gets depressing after a while. So get involved in the many social gatherings or events held on your campus and don't be afraid to mingle with people, trust me you won't regret one bit of it.
