What if your child does not want to get a job when they are older?

What would you do if when they are old enough to work, that they do not want to get a job or do work? Would you charge them rent to stay home with you or have a long talk with them or something else that you can think of?

i will try to talk to them and 'reason' with them. if that does not work, then i will stop all allowance and ask them to pay rent and monthly allowance to me for food. ;0)

I definitely agree with you on all of those things. Talking to them would definitely be first. I would charge them rent to stay home. Even though i was working when I was younger, my parents charged me rent to live with them til I got my own place.

I agree with your response. They need to learn this before going off on their own. If they won't go and get a job on their own we need to try to persuade/motivate them to do so.

yes it is good to prepare your children to when they start living on their own and taking care of themselves.

As long as they're in school it wouldn't bother me, even if it was college. I think their education should come first. If they graduated or didn't want to go to college, I would want them to get a job.

Another good point. Their education is very important, though they could possibly do some small job or very part time work while in school.
