Why can't we paste anything on myLot?

My internet connection isn't working properly for few days. Anytime the link just goes and the internet doesn't work. I was responding for a discussion and when I clicked on "post response", I realized my link had gone. So I copied the whole thing and refreshed the page, because it was taking time to get posted even when the link came back. So again a blank form appeared before me and I pasted whatever I had written... And this message appears:- "To prevent spamming only users with more than 500 rating are allowed to paste on MyLot". Is this some kind of joke? Every time my connection goes I have to write whatever I have written again and again... Or I have to get more than 500 rating... Wow! It would be better if they had a system like if someone spams and people report against the person, then they can just remove the member... Why penalizing everyone else for some people? What do you all think?

I kind of have to agree with this one - often, I instinctively copy something when I think my internet is crashing, only to realize that I can't paste something here. I know it's around for a good reason, but still, I can't help wishing that I had that ability now. Soon, though.

Hello! As I had mentioned on my post, the script is implemented to help prevent spam by users who have less than 500 posts. Just keep on posting and when you reached your 500th post, the pasting ability serves as a reward. It really helps to me to backup my post when my browser encountered a problem. It is more convenient to use instead of retyping.

Hello, silveralight! Well, you are not able to do pasting unless you reached your 500th post. The script was to help prevent spam. You should post a lot in order to do that. When you reached your 100th post, you will have a star next to your name, that represents your rating or mylot reputation. On your 200th post, you are now able to use smileys The pasting feature really helps so you should try your best to have it. Happy mylotting!

I also tried pasting my first coments from Word I normaly use Word because I'm really bad with spelling and it helps me. But when I got the message about the 500 rating I don't a little disapointed because I was not that comfortable writing without knowing if I was writing with corect spelling. But now I just want to get to the 500 rating so I coud be sure that people can understand everything that I'm writing. I hope you get there fast so you wont be having any problems in pasting. Happy mylotting.

I faced the same problem when I started the response to some discussions . Often my link needed to be refreshed , hence I copy my content and refresh the page. On the blank form when I pasted, the same message was retrieved. But, I think mylot need newcomer's to mylot should work hard to get their rewards. But it will be frustrated one. Anyway, once cross the limit it is not a matter!

I copy and paste a lot, and I guess I didn't realize it until I came here and it told me I couldn't! But I do see what they're trying to prevent. Things like chain letters/messages that you see in YouTube comments that are as long as the character limit will allow, with stupid stuff like "Now that you've read this, you must repost within 3.28 seconds or a girl with half her face missing will come and eat your eyeball." People do that all the time but I don't think they're so willing to repost if they have to physically type it all out over and over again. It's sort of a necessary evil, if you ask me.

Yeah, and I don't think spammers have the patience to work 500 posts just to be able to spam.

Great point. Most spammers don't want to sit and type for hours on end just to reach 500 posts. They're off and running to the next site where they can bombard people with spam.

I think one of the main purposes of that rule is to make ppl appreciate the copy and paste privlege we get here. If you have to work for it, your less apt to abuse it. I know I'm careful not to b/c I don't want to have to go without it again. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

I know that it is tedious, I remember how much I waited for getting to my 500 mark so then I could copy and paste but it actually is a good thing because for me, it made me have to write out and express my own thoughts, which eventually made responding like a piece of cake because the words just flooded out of me, so even though the reason behind the copy and paste having to be 500 is about spam, it still is not a bad thing in the long run

Yes, it's annoying when you're written out a long post and then your internet crashes but I guess they have to have the 500 post thing to stop spamming as it would be too difficult to police otherwise.

What can I say, that's the rules here silveralight and has been the rule all along One can't copy/paste until they reach 500 points...not only does it discourage people from spamming, but also plagiarizing and I've seen my share of mylotters who do this very thing unfortunately

I think that the way they have it set up is effective. It teaches users from the beginning to respect the site and follow it's rules. Not posting until 500 gives the person a chance to look at others discussions and see what they paste and take note of whether it's against the rules or not. They can learn from others mistakes that way. Don't worry, you'll get to 500 before you know it. I know I'm still amazed at being 5000 and some posts.

I have no problem copying and pasting things on MyLot. I'm sure others have already told you the answer. I would like to add that you don't earn more for copying and pasting. I don't know how MyLot knows you copy and pasted an article, but yeah, MyLot does not give you .10(or higher) for posting a long article. I know, I tried. :P

we can copy and paste on mylot but with several restrictions otherwise your account may be suspended or even cancelled if you dont follow the instruction, i think people who have reached the 500 point on mylot are allowed to copy and pasted, you cant copy and paste if you dont have up to 500 discussions or responce, then it will be better for you not to post anything because your account may be suspended

It happened to me too. Setting a limit is a better option because a reporting system can give riseto false reporting out of envy or enmity. Imagine the time myLot has to spend to sift through all reports. No one is being penalised. Surely we do not want myLot to become as what has happened to many websites. When we join an organisation we should follow the rules. Just participate without counting. Before you know it you would have passed the limit. all the best in your postings, rosdimy

I think it's a very annoying but smart add on to the site. Preventing spam ensures we keep the discussions clean. I think if you really want to copy and paste information you will work hard for that 500th post as I am doing. I'd give mine another week or so and I will be copy and pasting to assist members of this community. It's not penalizing put more like keeping noobs from from spamming and the older members from continuously warning them.
