Is fasting once a week good for health ?

I have known people who have a fast every monday or some other day for some religious reasons. I myself have never done a fast. When I asked my mother she said fasting once in while helps in removing all body toxins and is good for health. In fasting we have meals which are free from oils and spices i.e we have simple meals. People who fast over here, does it really make you feel better ?

I've never tried it (haven't got the strength of will not to eat for a whole day), but I have also heard that fasting once a week can be good for you.

Oh if you do not have the strength then never go for it, it can be harmful for you. This thing should only be tried by those who have enough energy to sustain one whole day :-)

Oh, I think I probably have sufficient energy, I just don't think I could not eat for en entire day.

i don't think it does any harm for a day or too if you are healthy and drink lots of water while you are fasting. i don't think there are any proven health benefits though

yes, drinking water is very important even when you are not fasting. My dietician has asked me to drink around 2-3 litres of water a day, but I drink around 1.5 litres, still I have to use the loo a lot !! hehe

May be I will try, but I cannot go hungry for one whole day with just water to drink. I will have to take some fruits and food without oil and spice :-D

When I was younger and living alone I used to fast every Monday and Thursday. It was a complete fast from dawn to dusk with nothing taken. As I remember it it did make me feel better. I was healthier. Fasting helps the digestive system to rest, and gives the chance to the rest of the body to get rid of waste by products. I have done fasting for 16 fridays, but i never thought about the physical benefits it gives to us. Fasting is for religious purpose but if we will start finding our benefits in it i.e;become greedy , then everything goes waste. I agree that it may have good effects as doctors suggest us to avoid such things like spicy,oil food that we dont take while fasting. Happy mylotting!
