Is fasting once a week good for health ?

I have known people who have a fast every monday or some other day for some religious reasons. I myself have never done a fast. When I asked my mother she said fasting once in while helps in removing all body toxins and is good for health.
In fasting we have meals which are free from oils and spices i.e we have simple meals.
People who fast over here, does it really make you feel better ?

When I was younger and living alone I used to fast every Monday and Thursday. It was a complete fast from dawn to dusk with nothing taken. As I remember it it did make me feel better. I was healthier.
Fasting helps the digestive system to rest, and gives the chance to the rest of the body to get rid of waste by products. I could go on based on pwesonal experience and what I have learned but this time I have decided to give several links

I have done fasting for 16 fridays, but i never thought about the physical benefits it gives to us. Fasting is for religious purpose but if we will start finding our benefits in it i.e;become greedy , then everything goes waste. I agree that it may have good effects as doctors suggest us to avoid such things like spicy,oil food that we dont take while fasting. Happy mylotting!
