I always make sure to turn off lights. Keep the blinds shut during the summer to keep the heat out, keep them opened in the winter to let the heat in. I only put my clothes in the dryer for a few minutes and then hang them to let them dry. I hang them on my stairway rails. Cook most meals at home. Pack my husband's lunch everyday. Pack my kids lunches most days. Avoid excess driving. Work on several online sites to earn money.

I am finding myself clipping more coupons, checking the sales papers, and getting most things that are needed at one store instead of several, thus saving fuel. We purchased a new house in May and signed papers on a new car yesterday (my 14 year old car finally gave out. We have been very careful for the last 2 years to be sure that we can afford these things and still put a little into savings for our sons future. Yes, it is tighter than I like, but it will be worth it in the end.

I do everything already listed, plus I only buy clothes from thrift stores. I never eat out or go to movies. I don't buy much brand name food and stick to basics so that I can cook from scratch. I'm learning to make a lot more things from scratch than I ever thought of (hamburger buns, cheese sauce, potato chips, etc.) A tank of gas lasts me 6 weeks or more and I drive a 13 year old car so the taxes and insurance are very low. I go to garage sales with a list of things I need. Yesterday I bought a bag of good quality socks - about 20 pairs - for $2.

I do what ever I can myself. I make my laundry detergent for a fraction of what it would cost to buy some. I make our bar soap for our family. I mend our clothes instead of buying new. I also help my mom out in her house for a few extra dollars a month.
