it's been suggested today that an amnesty for the illegal immigrants currently living in the uk would add 3 billion to the economy. what do you think about this? if you're not from the uk what effect do you think an amnesty would have on your country?

Well, I am not from UK. But I think it's a wonderful idea to add such a big amout to the economy. I don't think there is any harm in implementing this.

cybersoft - They don't add to the economy they drain it because 99.99% of them live free and draw benefits - they get free everything.

jb - Have to agree with you about the Scottish but as for the immigrants - you need to take a closer look. Near my husbands home in Sheffield are a load of Somalis - not a one of them works but they all drive new cars. These people draw more in benefits than born & bred British who have worked there all their adult life. The last thing they were wanting was satellite dishes so they could get TV etc in their own language - and the stupid Sheffield ciuncil was thinking of giving it to them at a cost of 7 million pounds. My thoughts on this - if they want to live in England then learn the language or go bsck where you came from.

that's not actually true, most immigrants here work, and quite hard. it's only people like me that claim benefits and i'm only doing that cos i'm studying

I am from the US but spend a lot of time in the UK because that is where my husband lives. I heard that in not too may years the UK population will be 80% muslim - wether they expect them to be legal or not I don't know - the same article said that white UK families will have 2.11 children while the Muslim families will have 8.1. Doesn't take long to become the largest percentage of the population at that rate.

where did you see this article? i've never seen statistics like this before (outside of a bnp pamphlet) and it seems a bit unlikely

A friend in Sheffield sent it to me about a month ago on the internet - can't remember where it came out at - looking at the neighborhood my husbnad lives in though I find it quite feasible.

jb - I might add it did not come from the BNP because if it had I would not have bothered reading it - I never read anything they put out.
