Ive been a member since August 2004. The site helped me locate some friends i lost contact with for a while, i uploaded pictures in every family activities or any important times in my life. But with my eyes close, i have to cancel my account. Not just friendster, including multiply and picasa. the reason behind this is because 2 days ago, i got bored and googled my name and there! i have searched results on my multiply and friendster page. My IT friend told me this is where theft identity comes in. I may not be famous but i dont want to be victim as well, just in case. I just saved all important pictures in my computer and cancelled all other accounts. So when u google for my name and email add again, i dont see any search results. And that gave me peace of mind.

Ha...your post here made me remember my own Friendster account. I think it has been weeks now, if not a month or so that I've been logging on since. . The site is pretty redundant now, especially with lots of other sites like Facebook and whatnot. But I do know that there are some that dislike the idea of joining social networking sites. I agree with you that it's cool to keep in touch with family and friends through sites like this, but after some time, the boredom starts to set in and one just doesn't log on anymore. I'm thinking of whether I should delete my account there too. I've been a member since 07.

and just to think i used to put out all info on me online before i decided to put a stop on it. So in between the creation and cancellation of the account, i wonder who found out info about you right before anyones eyes. scary!

I agree. That's why it's best not to reveal real phone numbers, addresses and other identity details in social network sites. Just give basic information will do. I'm not logging on to Friendster for very long now. Maybe it's time to close shop too.. :(

I also deleted my Friendster account months ago. I have been a member since September of 2003 or 2004 and I have had 3 accounts. The reason why I deleted it was because Friendster was just becoming so overrated with all the themes, backgrounds, etc. I just don't like how it's become like MySpace and random people just add you as friend just for the sake of increasing the number of friends they have. Plus, I have too much online accounts to check already and since Friendster was already on rock bottom of my list, I decided to get rid of it already. Besides, I already have my close friends in Facebook. Much simpler and I could start from scratch on who to accept and ignore.

People has been asking me to update my facebook. I just dont have to time to work around it. beside the only reason why i joined facebook is to increase my friends level on the mafia game. i didnt even upload picture on that site.

My friendster account is on stand by. It's getting boring there. The only thing interesting there are the fake sexy photos uploaded by members. lol! Well yeah i think social networking sites are breeding grounds for identity theft but i don't think they can get anything from me. It's not like they're going to get money from the bank since i don't have an account yet. lol! Soon i will but then i guess it takes a lot of work to be getting a small amount of money to someone who's not rich and famous. I'm pretty sure i am ranked 1,999,999,9999th on their list of victims.

Nice one modstar. But yeah, we just have to be careful nowadays knowing that the theif's gotta what they gotta do! You'll loose nothing with just that ounce of caution. I also dont think i can be on their list but i just have to be careful all the same.

I already cancelled my friendster account year 2005. I dont want my personal information be visible and accessible nationwide or worldwide. I just decided to cancel it when i started to receive emails from other people all over the world selling stuffs, email notification that i am won in lottery and things like that. It has advantages i know because we can contact our old friends and relatives. But whatever happens, i dont want to create new account in friendster again. Happy mylotting and smile always!

Thats a part of the reason why i cancel my account. Im getting all kinds of spam email. Good thing yahoo have an option to just empty the spam folder one time, if not deleting would also be touble.

I myself have Friendster account but I only have less than 10 friends there. I do not post anymore there but visit once in a while if I do get messages.

I seldom log in to my friendster account. There's nothing much to do in friendster. I thought of closing down my account too.

Me too, I have been inactive in friendster. I am just finding that there is nothing more in there that is interesting enough to make me visit. I have noticed a lot of my friends are switching to facebook and since I am doing this just to keep in touch with old friends that I no longer get to see that often, I have also switched onto facebook..
