OMG! PETA Comments On Obama's Killing Of A Fly

Okay folks I do happen to support many of PETA's concepts since if it hadn't been for them I wouldn't have been exposed to the many REAL horrific abuses toward animals....but even I have to admit this is going a bit far. As many know, during an interview between Obama and CNBC’s John Harwood, there was a pesky fly that was being a nuisance. Obama aware of the fly kept track of it, and watched it as it landed on his hand and boom...killed that sucker. Hey you might not be a lover of Obama, but hell he does have great fly swatting skills with his bare hand...could YOU do that? Anyway, believe it or not PETA had to comment about "Obama For Ninja Fly Swat During Interview" There comment was "He isn’t the Buddha, he’s a human being and human beings have a long way to go before they think before they act.” In other words, they weren't amused that Obama decided to kill that fly. You can see an article about it here and that famous fly swatting video of Obama (NOT a referral link but link to article and video) http://www.ecorazzi.com/2009/06/17/peta-criticizes-president-obama-for-ninja-fly-swat-during-interview/ts toe Mmmmm...now while I may support PETA in some of its concepts I guess according to them, I'm an animal abuser and murderer since I've done my fair share of KILLING bugs--in fact last year when I was inundated with flies I became one hot momma with a smoking rolled newspaper and swashed the suckers to smithereens. How about you? Think PETA has really lost it? I mean sorry, many bugs I don't have any problem with killing (Roaches, ants and flies) Do you admire Obama for his fly killing skills (I do--wish I could do that--reminiscent of that scene in Karate Kid where the kid learns to kill a bug with chopsticks)...can you kill a bug like that?

You know that I am NOT the biggest fan of PETA!! I have been trying to tell you for what years now that PETA is stupid! I am not surprised by this at all it is what they do they take a minor thing like this and blow it way the hell out of proportion all while they are wearing make up made from animal byproducts and driving fancy cars with leather interior people of PETA are the worlds biggest freaking hypocrites

For once I do have to agree with you about the stupidity of PETA making an issue of Obama's bug killing. Gee, hope you don't turn me in over to them...I've done my share of bug killing

I realized PETA lost it when they wanted to rename fish, sea kittens. But this is even over the top for someone who'd already lost their minds! I can kill flies with my bare hands but I usually refrain because I have an aversion to getting bug guts on myself.

That's just totally insane of PETA. Isn't a fly an INSECT and doesn't the "A" in PETA stand for "Animals"? What idiot is working for PETA that has the power to make a stupid statement over a bug??? I wish I had Obama's reflexes! Flies see me coming a mile away if I have a flyswatter in my hand! I doubt I'd want to squish a fly on my hand. That's just too gross. I hate bug guts on my windshield; there's no way I'd want them on my hand! Eww! I think I'd have to wait for the fly to land somewhere else. I hope that PETA realizes the error of their ways... at least about this one incident. It's not like flies are an endangered species!

Me, either, Pye! We have a cattle farm across the road which seems to attract mutant, ANGRY flies! I don't like ANY animal that bites! I don't care if the fly IS a distant cousin of mine, I don't want them anywhere near me! They have to be one of the MOST annoying critters around!

I love animals but, I eat meat does that make me a bad person no. I kill the occasional fly and mosquito You'd kill Mosquitos too if you were allergic to them. I swell up like crazy when bit. I leave spiders alone, or take them outside if I can, they kill harmful insects like Mosquitos. I tend to panic if a spider is on me though, some of them might have gotten killed. So he swated a fly? big deal

I used to work for a company that often bought pizza for its employees from Little Ceasaer. We had a couple of Vegans who worked there. They got angry and demanded a cheeseless pizza. Well, the manager got a pizza just for them, no cheese and pineapple (I hate pineapple onpizza!) The gobbled that pizza like it was the most delicious thing they ever had. After they got off, I said to the manager. "I didn't have the heart to tell them that Little Ceaser uses milk in their dough." The manager craked up.

Awww--sorry about that AngryKitty. Instead of voicing their objections about Obama's fly swatting, why not about the Geese killing? Hey, did anything show up in that Poughkeepsie Journal??..I did write to them about the geese

You mean to say that PETA hasn't said ANYTHING about the mass killing of INNOCENT geese? But they have a problem with a FLY getting swatted? Freaking idiots. I haven't read the Journal becasue of the way it folds out (4 ways, like the times instead of two ways like the Post or Newsday) so I can't see half the paper when I have it on my table, but I'll check their opinion section online and see if your letter has appeared. I'll get back to you on that.

When I heard that on TV last night I could not believe how ridiculus the PETA comments were. IMO PETA is just as idiot as the constant TV coverage of this fly swatting incident. I can see Obama's fly killing feat being mentioned but this is getting more coverage than the economy problems. Perhaps this is the most newsworthy incident in the presidents current leadership!

in my religion, a life is a life no matter how insignificant it might seem. my first reaction when i saw the video was why did he had to go kill the fly? yes it's a pesky little thing and yes it's bothering him. but a fly is a life too! many a murderer starts by abusing small animals. so when a person finds it alright to take away the life of a fly, there's no telling where they'll 'graduate' to...

i guess it's just me. a life is a life no matter how insignificant it might seem. different things may be insignificant to different people. it doesn't make it right to kill just because it's annoying. almost all animals carry diseases, a good example will be the killing of stray dogs because they 'might' spread rabies. to non-animial lovers, stray dogs are annoying and insignificant too. why do we feel that one species of animal is superior to another? i'm not condemning or lambasting people who kill flies. it's just that the life of a fly is the same as the life of a dog, or even human being to me. as for the 12 hours thing, does that make it alright for another species who live for centuries to kill human beings because we live for merely eighty years?

I don't think someone is going to grow up and start being a murderer to people just because they kill flies or ants etc. I don't like to kill anything even ants. Mosquitos I swat because they can carry disease and I don't like mosquito bites that make me itch for days. I don't kill flys usually I just shoo them away but if they are really annoying me and will not stop landing on me or on my food then I would kill them as well because they are gross deficating all over things they land on. I don't want fly poop in my food. I usually open a window if they get inside to try to let them out. Everything has a purpose and flys are on earth for other animals to eat but they really can be annoying to people.

I think PETA has definitely gone off the deep end. I support their views on a number of subjects too, but the group is just a little too militant for my taste. If we never killed a bug this planet would be overrun with insects. I won't kill ladybugs, caterpillars, or butterflies but every other bug is fair game in my book. PETA would put Raid and other insecticide makers out of business in short time and the last thing we need in this recession is more companies going bankrupt. lol

As far as bugs, I think there are more species of bugs than any other "animal" so yes, to NOT kill them we would be overrun by especially harmful bugs that carry diseases.

Come now, is it just me who thinks this is really stupid? I’m an animal lover and anyone who knows me appreciates the fact. Yes I do put spiders outside and I don’t kill anything just for the fun of it but bugs and flies? I had an ant infestation last summer and yep I killed them all of them before I found them in my food! I think it is instinctive to swat a germ carrying fly or spray a dirty cockroach. Isn’t PETA busy doing something else? Surely they don’t have time for this! As for Barack Obama’s fly swatting skills...Very impressive!

hi pyewacket, I have seen president Obama's interview and he really is a good striker or a sharp swapper. I think that is an initial reaction of a human when pesky fly bothers you and you might swallow it because he was talking at that moment, your initial reaction is to stop it and get rid of it. What if that fly came from a dirty garbage and it is very unsanitary. I think animal lovers like the so called PETA will not kill any animals even though it will bring harm and great danger to them. What if a giant snake will attack them and try to swallow them I am sure they will kill them. What if that small fly carries a dangerous germs or diseases will they cherished it and love it. I don't think so. Bye the way it was just my opinion thanks God bless. Can you be my friend?

Now that is just crazy!! I cant believe that would get such a work up. My thoughts on the situation is this. There is a place for everything and fly's going around landing on people is not okay. They really gross me out actually. They dont even come close to an animal. I am not in favor of killing animals and even some insects, like butterflies for example. But that is just one less thing that they should use to get their blood boiling. But this is only IMO.

hmm, My cat can kill any fly in seconds....should I stop her?I am sorry, I do kill mosquitoes, because it caries serious illness for myself and my pets. Fly is also dangerous for humans transmitting serious illness. When we are at pandemic level with swine flu, maybe we can think twice, before making any comments. I admire Obama for his skills. I am vegetarian and most likely I let my bags pout of the house when available, but I do kill mosquitoes with zapper.....

Did anyone notice that the fly was only pestering Obama? Then flies are attracted to shi* as well as garbage and most of what he says lands in that category. But anyone who is faced with such a pest as a fly will try to swat it. They are as filthy as any cockroach I have ever seen. New name "Fly Killer Obama"

I have seen Peta magazines and they take animal cruelty and killing very seriously. I have a vegan diet for ethical and health reasons. I love animals, especially ones like dogs, cats, horses, cows, pigs, lions and elephants. Insects can be annoying like mosquitoes can carry Malaria or Yellow Fever as well as less serious Ross River Fever. Flies can be bothersome and unlike spiders they can be challenging to catch. I catch spiders with a glass and piece of cardboard then place them outside. I leave a window open and try to get the fly to out into my garden. In Australia they have some excellent screens on their doors to prevent insects coming inside.

LOL I do the same with spiders..I never kill them since it was a family "thing" that my great-grandmother said to kill a spider was bad luck..heehee..so I do the same thing if I see one...gently scoop it up and place it outsideh

in my opinion, PETA's rant against Obama is a bit too extreme. there are far more serious issues againsta animals that they can focus their energy on. I am all for Animal Rights, but I hope PETA doesnt make use of every media coverage that they can get cause it will defeat the purpose of their cause.
