I think I have a "wrong number" stalker...

OK, this is strange... The phone just wrang and it was some guy. He's all cheerful sounding and asks if I was awake already because I sound like it. He says this like I'm usually still in bed - at 8am on a weekday... I'm not sure who it is, but it kinda sounds like my uncle, who would normally call me on my cell phone... So I tell the guy "Yeah, I've been awake for a couple hours, but I think you have the wrong number." He asks if I'm Kelly and when I say "No" he keeps talking to me! Then he says "Are you single, beautiful and rich?" Which totally reminded me of a phone call I got a long time ago - well a year or so. I'm pretty sure it was the same guy. And he's wanting to have a conversation with me! I just said "Hey, I have to get to work" and then he says "Oh I'm so lucky I can wait until the traffic dies down." I was really getting freaked out. Do you talk to people when you get a wrong number or just say "Oh, sorry!" and hang up?

When I get the wrong number I say, Thank you, I'm sorry for bothering you... and hang up. Now I have had times when other on the other end of the line say that's okay it's not a problem and proceed to talk to me as if they know me. One time I talk to an older woman for about an hour and another time an older man the same. I didn't mind I figured they were just lonely and finally had the chance to talk to someone. They even told me to call back sometime.

I have had a couple times where I've talked a bit to the person too, but this guy was getting creepy... And when he said that one line, the last time just came right back to me...

I would write down the date, time, and everything he says when he calls. If he calls like 7 or 8 times then you can have your line tapped by the police for them to catch him. It's something to look into if he keeps calling. If you could tape him (legally) do that too.

I once had a little old lady call me, not once, but about three times in the course of fifteen minutes, asking for "Martha". I had a truly blessed inspiration, as I knew of a Martha whose last name had an "N" where mine had an "R". I called Martha, who did not really know me, but she knew exactly who that little old lady was, and later Martha called me back to thank me, because the lady was ill and needed help badly, and I was able to get Martha there for her.

I would apologize and hang up, after verifying what the error actually is. Like, I would say, I am sorry, I dialed 123-4567, giving them the opportunity to say, "I am sorry that is not the number you reached" or, "there is no one by that name at this number" When I was pregnant with my second child, hubby worked shifts. I would often get a call, about the time the bars closed down, asking for Angie. Always the same guy. I later met "Angie's" mom, or rather, I already knew her. I had reason to give my number to someone at work, who said "I can remember this, it is just one number off from my daughter, Angie's". I never told her that some drunk kept calling her daughter.

Oh that's too funny!!! I will usually repeat the number to to see if I dialed wrong or if I wrote the number down wrong.

I do that too, check to see if I dialed the number right, because sometimes I invert the numbers. I also ask the person that called me what number they dialed just to make sure they actually dialed mine, then reply accordingly.

My dear friend Mr. Caller ID thankfully prevents me from answering wrong number callers. I used to think it was funny when people would call and just start talking away, thinking I was someone else... now, I think I'd be a bit unnerved. I read too many crime novels! :O)

Unfortunately, I'm a bit too cheap to pay for caller id - I need all the craps money I can get here lately!!! It hasn't happened again, and hopefully it wont. But next time I'm definitely calling the police or something. A friend of mine was taking a psychology class and she said that there are people that just get their thrills by doing this all the time.

I'd be freaked out too! I tend to say sorry I must have pushed the wrong button and hang up. Then rather than pushing redial like im sure some people do i carefully dial the number again. I have one guy right now giving my cell number out as his number - had a woman argue with me that i was answering the wrong phone and i should give this perry guy (no clue who he is) back his phone. I offered to show her the receipt and mobile bills with the number on registered TO ME and she hung up on me.

it could be he met a gal once that way and is hoping it will happen again. or maybe just lonely and wanting to talk to someone? it depends on what im doing when i answer. if im in a hurry i can get really cranky or if im bored myself i might.talk a minute. but when i was living alone NEVER. it freaked me out one time when a guy called late and didnt want to hang up. i had to hang up on him . then worried about if he knew where i lived.
