What is your learning style?

Do you learn best by hearing a lecture or documentary? Do you learn best by reading a book or website? Do you learn best by doing a task related to your search for answers? There are also other ways to determine how you learn best: Meaning oriented learners ask WHY? They learn best from gathering data. They focus on people and observe life. You will often see them kicked back thinking. Theory oriented learners ask WHAT? They do best starting with a concept and thinking abstractly. Their minds work sequentially...if that is true, then this must be true.... Not to confuse them with Solution oriented learners, who start with a theory but have to find a pratical solutions and are not satisfied with just the abstract.Their favorite question is HOW? They focus on results. Active oriented learners use their senses to experience life and do best if they have the freedom to move about and use their bodies and senses in finding answers. They are flexible and adventurous. So, which are YOU?

I learn more from Visual Aids, reading, and One on One attention. I'm a bit of a slow learner but I enjoy learning what ever and when ever I can :)

There is not a thing wrong with learning slowly. As I mentioned above my youngest son is learning challenged. He learns at his own pace and in his own way. I've had teachers and counsellors tell me his IQ is quite high. The important thing is to keep challenging yourself...and never give up! Thanks for responding 18to5wynn.

Hi, This is a great question. I took some education courses, trying to get my degree in elementary education, and one of the courses introduced me to the different styles of learning. That is where I learned that I am one of those people that has to be a hands-on learner with a trace of visual. I often wonder why teachers teach all students in the same style, no matter the students preference.

Thank you for your response...teachers do so because the Dept. of Education says to do so! And being the government entity they are, I doubt it will change any time soon, despite knowlegable and dedicated teachers saying it doesn't work.

Depends on what it is that I'm learning, but in general it's a combination of information (book, lecture, whatever) in combination with me actually doing whatever it is. Just the information alone isn't enough for some things.

I have to do things too...to remember them. Either from writing or from doing.

In my case, my learning from college only set the basic foundations, and the work as a teacher, interpreter, and later executive secretary constitute a supplementary and more effective approach of learning in a much wider range. The related documents accessable provide ready means to replenish my knowledge and the process of daily routine, projects execution add to skills and knowhows. From my experience, it is better not to be too picky in selecting the job, and through diversified errands you will become a capable and helpful career person.

Thanks zhuhuifen, for stopping by my discussion. It sounds like you learn well from doing...accomplishing. And I agree that it is best not to limit yourself to jobs that are easy or just interesting...branching out is a good way to learn.

Hello friend, I have used a lot of learning styles and I think I have learned the most through doing my projects and assignments myself. Sometimes I would read a book and learn too. I have tried but I have never been able to learn on the internet as it gives me too many distractions and I get drawn to orkut or facebook or some song or download or something like that.

Thanks for your response jshekhar....just wondering, have you ever been tested for ADD? Attention deficet disorder? I took an online test and found that I am mildly ADD...and my very calm quiet daughter took one at her counsellor's office and she too, was mildly ADD. You just never know?

Hi,the combined study methods is effective in my learning. My learnign style depends on what I’m going to learn.Basically, knowledge will be classed into two types by myself: the new knowledge which I've never touched with or just heared the basical conception from others and the knowledge I've luckily know somthing about it. (Certianly the later one once was in the former type) I prefer to attend lectures to learn the knowledge which is totally new for me to save time. Expert always know more than our ordinaries. As to the knowledge which I've learned something but still need to be study deeply. I will use the way whatever can help me understand it, use it and mark it in my heart. So, if only the way is helpful in learning, Solution Oriented and the Active Oriented or any other ways, it will be carried out for studying.

I enjoy lectures...most people dread them lol I love to sit and listen to an expert talk about his field of study. I audited several classes when I was going to school...just for the fun of it!
