Why are haunted houses in movies/cartoons always fully furnished?

Ghosts or no, why haven't places like that been cleared out long ago? In real life, all the scarey abandoned houses I've ever found are fairly empty! I'm jealous. Have cartoons lied to me yet again!

I am not really sure why they are like that. I had never really gave it a whole lot of thought before either. That is a very good question. Abandoned houses, should be just that, vacant of people and items.

Occssionally I've found some old houses that people were too lazy to clean out, but they never look like those classic haunted houses with beautiful chandeliers (beautiful, at least, until they nearly fall on the lead character), excellent stairway woodwork and perfect antique furniture. But what really upsets me, I think, are the lies Scooby Doo fed me with their completely stocked kitchens!

I don't know...that's a good one. Maybe it's to add to suspense or something, like the ghosts are still "living" in the house or something.

Ghosts in entertainment have better lawyers maybe?

it is actually an indication that someone is living in that abandoned house.it also adds humor.characters, especially scaredy-cats like Scooby Doo,can use the house furnishing as hiding place whenever the ghosts start chasing them.it will be boring if the character is being chased, then he/she won't hide.there's no "thrill of the chase".
