I Do short hand at times and it slips, Sometimes ill use u rather then you. im used to it from playing MMOs. On here i try and keep grammar and spelling "errors" out of my posts. But hey it happens, so don't judge me !

OMG whatevs! It is a good way to swear according to my 9 year old... U R A DB means you are a dumb b word that rhymes with witch. I wonder if the Mylot censors would pick up on it? It's a thought there...

I agree, it should be spelled out as correctly as they can spell it. Sometimes the texting only confuses me some and takes me long to decipher out the words. While it is cool on some things it doesn't belong here unless it is in a private message.

Wow, as much as I like shortcuts, I think I prefer real words when it comes to reading.*L* Had to stop and think about a couple of those as I read.

Ha Ha....I actually had to go to a web site that showed text words to write this post.
and some of them I just made up. 
I don't like talking on the phone, I don't own a cell phone, but if I did I would much rather talk on it than sit there and type with my thumbs.

But the discussion is about using text language when you are on here. There's no real reason to use short hand when you are on line. It doesn't cut THAT much time off your typing, and it sure as heck doesn't do anything to improve communication skills!

But shorthanding in certain situations is quicker. But most phones have T9 or word suggestions that u can push the button and it will out the word for you. Like hello would be 43556 rather then having to cycle through the numbers.

i agree completely with you... i also don't like to see texting language here in mylot... mylot is for discussions and we should try our best to use proper english here... anyway, those who use texting language here is just plain lazy like what you say and i won't be answering to their discussions if they write in texting language... take care and have a nice day...

This is one of my pet peeves here. I just tend to totally ignore posts that are written in text language. It might be appropriate on a mobile phone with limited bandwith, but it's certainly not appropriate here and without checking the guidelines, I'm pretty sure that it's mentioned there as one of the DONTS.

I can read text writing yes! But Duh! This is not a texting program but a forum that needs right grammar and right spelling. makes me bypass a discussion when its written this way.
I almost did on your discussion till I read it fully, hope this responders do get what you mean here.

I still don't think I understand it all and I've read it three times, but you sure made my day. And your replies you received are hilarious, everyone is so funny. I don't understand. You're asking people/mylotters not to respond to your discussion in a texting manner, but wrote your message in that way. I even hardly understand some of the words you've used.
Anyway, I'm not that type, so no problem with me.

Yikes it took me forever to figure out what you were saying here...I notice you mention you don't have a cell phone..I do but rarely use it and plan to only use it for emergencies...I'm not much of a phone person either but would rather talk then type. I think most people, especially the "younger" folk have completely forgotten how to write in real words--wonder if they write out their term papers in txt language?

I totally agree! It's much easier to read REAL words, not words lik dis 1 or dat 1 or 4 u... or WrItInG LiKe ThIs.

i do text messaging but i do not do it here in mylot..mylot is a place where i learn more for my english.. plus i am not used to writing shortcuts hehe even in cellphones / mobiles

While I tend to agree with you, and I too find it annoying, you have to remember that the audience that you are addressing probably does not care, otherwise would not be using texting on a site such as this. However a reminder does not hurt. Just be thankful the do not use leetspeak.

You really put a smile on my face with this discussion. To be honest, even when I'm texting I write out the whole word (I know it's not very efficient). I've tried to do the abbreviations, but I just can't get the hang of it. Yes, I know, I'm old. On this site, though, it actually hurts you to put in abbreviations. Since they consider a quality post at least four to five lines of text, anything you would do to shorten it counts against you. Thanks again for the laugh.
