Did you know that Ed McMahon was more than an entertainer?

It saddens me that so much publicity has been focused on the death of Michael Jackson...and even Farrah Fawcett...when a man who served this country in so many ways during his life has been basically ignored. Ed McMahon was a decorated fighter pilot in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. During the Korean Conflict he re-enlisted and flew 85 tactical air control and artillery spotting missions as a member of the Marine Corps Reserve. He co-hosted of the annual Labor Day weekend Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon for 41 years with his last appearance in 2008. This man deserves some recognition for the contributions he made during his life, other than being Johnny Carson's sidekick, don't you think?

I didn't know about his military background but, I knew about the MDA stuff. It was truly a sad event.

Yes it was. Farrah Fawcett gets an "Oh, by the way..." and Ed McMahon gets nothing at all when he did so much good throughout his life. I'm not suggesting that MJ and Farrah did not make important contributions, they did, but Ed did, too.

Bravo! I knew that he had other contributions to this world that were wonderful besides the tonight show & star search, but I had no idea that he was a war hero as well. Thank you for educating us, God Bless Ed McMahon, may he rest in peace.

THANK YOU so much for bring up Ed and Farrah!! I think you are 1,000% right about what you said above. Micheal was NOT the only person that passed away this week and they really have gone way off the deep end on all the stuff they are doing on TV and everywhere about him. Both Ed and Farrah have done alot in their lives that have been just as great. ED MC MAHON and his contribution with just the JERRY LEWIS MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY LABOR DAY TELETHON for the past 41 years makes what Micheal has done puny. They have raised 1.46 Billion dollars!!! I mean come on That is Out***standing!!! I have been walking neighborhoods with my parents since I was a kid in New Jersey! Back in 1964 when they only had the Telethon in New York my parents would drive me up to New York city so I could throw the money in the bucket. Ed joined the telethon much later, but it still meant just as much. FAFRAH FAWCETT was just as great with her charm and grace, her role on Charlie's Angles was a great role model for young girls all over America. Two great American that deserve just as much air time and love as Micheal. We love you both and I have 3 candles for all of them burning all week. Thanks for reminding everyone.:)
