Do you go on many picnics? What kind of food do you like to take with you?

Whether it is at the beach or in a park, or even in one's own backyard, I love to have picnics! It is one of the joys of the warmer months where I live. The food can be simple or cooked on a grill: sandwiches, grilled meats, fruit, chips or sweet corn, potato salad, and cake or cookies are great. And lemonade and iced tea or soda seems to go with picnicking. Eating outdoors is always fun for me. Do you go on many picnics? What kind of food do you like to include?

Hello Yugasini...even a once in a great while picnic must be a treat, as something different to do. It's nice when each person brings a dish that will serve the whole crowd. Lots of variety that way, and the work is shared. Karen

Hi Karen! Going for pinic with kids and with your partner is a wonderful idea to get rid of boredoom and to make oneself refresh. Going for picnic is such a fun that we feel like going again and again (we often go on weekends). My better half is a very good cook and she has near perfect culinary skills, therefore, she would cook proper curry vegetables/pulses and bread (which is called 'Chapati or roti' here) and she will also arrange for some juices, when we go for picnic. Kids no doubt take along with them chips, popcorn and cookies etc. It is always great fun playing in open grounds or to sit near some water fall and enjoy our home cooked meal over there.

Hello Deepak...I agree with you that picnics make for a wonderful change from the ordinary. The food your wife makes to take along sounds delicious! Similar in many ways to things I like to take. I hope you get to go on picnics often this year. Karen

we have a small portable grill that we can take with us to parks and to the beach (although some beaches dont allow this) we take hotdogs and buns and fixings and usually have a picnic and spend the whole day there. its a lot of fun.

Hello Cher...portable grills are very handy, and I think most of us love hot dogs. So many things you can put on them. I know a family who love to go cross-country skiing in the winter time in our area, and they carry the grill and food in a backpack! So even winter picnics are fun. The beach is one of my favorite places to picnic though--play, swim, and yes, spend a whole day. :) Karen

We don't do the that often anymore but we both enjoy it when we do. I like to take chicken, deviled eggs, ice tea and watermelon, the small ones are just great for this.

Your picnic food sounds delicious! Frid chicken is one of my mom's specialties, along with her potato salad and chocolate. One daughter does the deviled eggs, and another loves to make sub sandwiches and pies. The youngest makes the most beautiful veggie platters. I love to do pasta and green salads and brownies or cookies. I hope you get to have at least one picnic this year. Karen

Well i've not been to too many picnics but i do enjoy it when it is with friends and relatives. But while going picnic with office colleagues i prefer taking snacks or local dishes which they would not have tasted. But i would always love to take junk foods like friums or chips that everyone would love to nibble :)

Hello Divkris. I think it's great to take dishes you love and know how to make that others might not have tried. And yes, snack foods go over well with almost every one. Thank you for your input :) Karen

Hi Ann...actually, it would be wonderful if we lived close enough so that our families could picnic together :) It just makes for such a fun and different way of spending a beautiful day in the warm months. The food you take sounds delicious! Karen

I don't go to a lot of picnics but the ones that I've been to are potluck style. So I usually bring chips and salsa, and peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches is always a hit with the kids. I also bring something sweet - cookies or a cake or something, because my bf has a sweet tooth. So he'll end up eating a lot of what we bring. We rarely bring meat - the boys mainly deal with that. Sometimes I bring spaghetti too! I'm known to love and know how to cook pasta! =D

Hello Khay...I think pb&j sandwiches are always a hit with kids (and I love them, too.) Potlucks are fun. We do them for big family reunions and holiday get-togethers. And pasta, whether hot with sauce, or cold in a salad is a favorite with us, too. Yum! Thank you for sharing your own preferences :) Karen
