My breakfast hot pocket rant.....

My daughter likes the breakfast hot pockets so I have been getting them for her for a couple of years. I like them too and I thought they were a pretty good value. Unfortunately, I have noticed now that suddenly the box is now only 2 instead of 4, and it states 'now BIGGER'. You know what? I don't care that they are bigger. It wasn't necessary. I would have much rather continued to buy them in boxes of 4 and had them stay smaller. Even though they are now the size of the regular lunch hot pockets, the fact remains that there are only 2 in a box now, and they cost the same as the boxes of 4 did. Would you be irked? I wonder if this has something to do with the sizes of things shrinking while the prices stay the same? Even if the boxes of 2 were cheaper than the boxes of 4, I'd still want the boxes of 4. SIGH.

I hate when they do stuff like that. I would be ticked off too. And really, who only needs 2? I have 3 kids, I would have to buy 2 boxes just to be able to have enough for them to all have one. What a rip off. I would write the company and complain. Any time my mom does that they send her coupons for free ones lol.

Excellent idea. I will go to the hot pockets site and see what I can do about a complaint. I don't have a problem with the product, they are still great, but they didn't need to be bigger if they were going to make the box smaller. They used to last a week.

Well I'm going to complain and see what they tell me. I will probably post a discussion with their 'response' to me. I think I may phone them so I can talk to a person. I want them to understand that I'd rather for the value have smaller but 4. I'm not in a situation where my daughter eats TWO so if they try saying something like that I'll mention how small she is. Discouraging especially with the cost of EVERYTHING rising!

i hear you. the only way i will buy the hot pockets is if i have a coupon for them or they are on sale. i find not only do you get less in number, they are smaller in size. i find this true in a lot of products these days.

But the problem is that they aren't smaller, they are LARGER. The package even boasts 'now larger!' but I didn't want to trade larger hot pockets for having only 2 in a box. The breakfast ones now come 2 to a box just like the lunch ones do. I can buy lunch ones in boxes of 5 or the industrial sized boxes of like... 18, but I'm not sure the breakfast ones come in industrial size boxes. The boxes of 4 used to be fine! I'd buy two when they were on sale, and that was enough for 2 weeks for my daughter since sometimes she eats cereal. I would take a tradeoff like this - smaller but MORE per package for the same cost. I don't like having them bigger but fewer per package. I'm talking about a five year old girl who's eating these. It's not like I'm trying to feed my husband.

Very tricky aren't they? I would go to a warehouse like Sams Club to see if they have a bigger box for a better value. I think I would also write the company and complain. Maybe they will at leaste send you come coupons or something.

I'm going to complain to the company tomorrow. I need the upc code from the box and I don't feel like getting up to get it right now lol. I can combine the coupons with when they go on sale and hopefully get a couple boxes almost free. After that point in time I might not buy them much any more....

I totally agree, I used to get those for my daughters thing is they are grown now, so I would buy one box of four and that would be enough for the week for me. Not eating them everyday, just liked having them when I wasn't going to cook, it worked for me being single. Now I have to spend twice as much for the same meals. Yes, writing to the company does get you coupons and such, still the cost has gone up.

There just was NO REASON to make them bigger and as a result put less in a box! that's why I'm so irked. I mean if they were going to make them smaller and then say 'but now they come four to a box' I'd be happy! In my opinion, the breakfast ones don't need to be the same size as the lunch ones. For lunch my daughter might have a hot pocket... a lunch one, with other stuff. If we are trying to rush somewhere, one thing to grab works.

You should email the company that makes them and let them know how you feel about this situation. They may just listen to you.

It does seem that quantity and quality is going down and the price is always going up. We have noticed it too, and have stopped buying many products because we feel we are now being ripped off. There is a new trend in my country at the moment with laundry products. The claim is that the new products are ultra concentrated. They come in a smaller box, are supposed to last 3 times as long as the regular size and concentration, but they cost almost twice the price. One day, I thought I would put these products to the test, and found that not only did the product not last longer than the regular ones, it last only about 1/2 as long. Not only that, but it wasn't as concentrated as they claimed, or my washing would have actually been clean and wouldn't have required another washing. It is so frustrating that companies are doing this to us, and thinking they can get away with it. Just goes to show that they don't care about the consumer, only how fat their own wallets are growing.

I heard so many products are being downsized and many of them you will never even notice its has happened their so experienced at packaging things discreetly. If it was a product I bought regularly I would be irked for sure because I like having reliable foods to buy. If you have enough room in your freezer maybe you can buy a large box of them at a wholesale club like Bjs, costcos or Sams. I buy them for my two girls and while they eat them off and on their good to have around. I usually get irritated because a lot of the foods I eat get discontinued because I guess theirs not enough people buying them and this has happened numerous times and I'll have to make a special trip to another grocer out of the way.

This is one of my husbands biggest complaints lately when we go to the grocery store. There are alot of products that have shrunk down their packaging sizes or portions and most of them charge the same price. It is frustrating especially now days. I have 4 kids and alot of things come 6 in a pack...that leaves 2 left. So, I have to get 2 packages. What is even worse is when the item that you love and have bought forever all of a sudden just disappears, can't find it any store! I have actually called manufacturer's over certain items I can't find.

Now double the calories. grrr. I prefer smaller portions in almost everything. The smaller the portion the better for my waste line.

Hey mommyboo! That's how they get ya! They get you hooked on the product first! Then they use the gimec that they made it BIGGER! But, so what! They only put 2 in the package and it's the same price as the 4! So, now you're already used to buying the product and you like it and still want to buy it so you now have to buy twice the amount if you REALLY like it! That so does piss me off! And the increased size does not make up for the them taking two of the item out of the box! If they're not doing that then they're shrinking the product and you're paying the same price for it in the smaller size and box! And they think that the consumer won't really notice and will buy it anyway because they like the item!

That's the strategy of the companies now to save more in manufacturing cost. You can call or email them regarding your concern. Maybe they will send you an examples of their products hehe, or even discount card :P

they maybe 2 bigger ones but probably still less then what the 4 were. most companies are cutting back on their products but raising or charging the same amount. i agree with you i would rather have the 4 pockets than the 2 larger pockets.

You should write the company. Give them your opinion. If enough people do, maybe they will go back to it. I am sure they had their reasons.

AH... the time "dis"honored practice of trying to make us believe that even when we're loosing we're winning LOL Why would we want bigger? And I bet it's not that bigger, is it? The sad part is that nothing short of a total boycott would help to get it back as it was. I'm so with you there, and join you in your rant. It's happening at all levels and with everything, and until as consumers we start sending stronger messages it will only get worse.

It's just another big business ploy to get you to buy more often. A lot of companies are doing that. Take yogurt for example, have you ever noticed how far the plug goes up into the little round carton? Before long you will be lucky to get a spoonful.

Supersize me. That is what is going on. Plus I bet they dont weight the same as the pack of 4. It is sick what companies are doing and then we wonder why people all over the world are geting fat. Here is Australia the fun size choc's have gone smaller but suprise suprise the price is the same and they are saying its for our own good. Fair enough but bring the price down for our own good too. In both cases we are geting less for our money because in your case you can only have 2 meals while before you had 4 and were happy that way. Now you eat more.

Oh i used to love these things when I was in high school - this was my lunch of choice. So yummy. I don't eat them anymore because when I check the nutritional facts - yeahhhhhh. But the bf loves experimenting with these and the breakfast burritos and all those other things - and yes, we've noticed the same thing. And he is definitely bummed about it. He stopped buying them though because there have "less" hot pockets so they're not worth it. Though when we go to costco to buy bulk stuff (toilet paper, etc), then we'll consider. You should definitely complain - maybe if enough people complain, they'll bring back the old ones.

Different people have different choice, maybe you prefer 4 in one box but I would like to take the 2 in box. So if seller can sell both of the packing method and can give the customers have their own choice, I think there wull not be any problem. We just pay what we choose!
