How frustrating is this? I was understanding that I would have 6 months after I finished school before I had to start paying back my student loans. Unfortunately, I just found out that because I had taken a maternity leave last year I do not get that 6 months grace period now. GRRR how frustrating is that? I just finished last week and my first payment is due next week and of course I do not have a job in the field yet. Guess I better be real active on mylot right?

And this is why people need to read all the fine prints and all the information regarding loans before thinking that of course there is nothing to them whatsoever. I can't exactly say I'm sorry for your situation - you did decide to get pregnant, you did decide to stop school for awhile, and now there are things that come about from your decision. Let this just be a lesson learned.

I was informed by both the loan company and the school it would be 6 months regardless so here is your lesson to be learned either way I have to pay for them. It doesnt matter. It was a discussion. Yes, I decided to get pregnant, Is that a problem? I was married and 26 at the time. I think that should be acceptable. Not to mention I unlike all these welfare bums am paying my way through school. At least I am going through school. Many of the people just sit at home and hope mylot pays there bills. Silly me guess I should have known better than listen to the people loaning me money or going to school. I should have stayed at home not went to school drawn a welfare check and pray that mylot would pay what the government wouldnt. Right?

OH, and by the way, I asked NOBODY to feel sorry for me now did I? I am perfectly happy with my education and my family. Thanks for your response though. You should read more thoroughly though because that was not a post for pity whatsoever but thanks anyways.

Call them welfare bums - the people getting financial aid and grants - but they aren't all. For me almost all of my college gets paid for - after 4 years I'm coming out with about $20,000 in government loans but guess what its not because I'm a welfare bum. So therefore maybe you need to do a little bit of research. And so you're 26 and you got pregnant - but still it was a choice you made. You had to make the decision whats better - keeping the child and quitting school for a bit - or getting rid of the child and going to school and getting it done. It was your choice. For me I would tell most people that if they aren't done with school and aren't completely stable in a job and a career then they aren't ready to bring a child into this world. And if you were really smart you would of had a conversation a few months before you graduated from college with the loan companies and tried to figure out ok when is the exact date I'm going to have to start paying, how much is it, can I set up different plans etc. That is the smart way.

Loans are really obnoxious. I know you said you are, but definitely look into getting them deferred on grounds of lack of job and/or sufficient funds. It's usually pretty easy to defer them. Many people I know have deferred them for various reasons, all not that severe. Of course, it is better to pay them off as quickly as possible. Right now I'm having mine deferred for a year. I lost my job in December and have yet to find another one. I think I can get a couple years out of it, if I have to, but I'd love to have a new job so I can start paying them again. It's going to take me years to pay them off as it is.

Its just frustrating to me that they didnt accept the original deferment. It would have been one less thing on my mind.

Yes, that is really annoying. It's one thing if you just overlooked that clause but, if you were told by them that it wouldn't matter, that's really frustrating. I hate when I'm told one thing and then have to do another.

That happened to me too!!! I took a semester off to figure things out and then I started right back and I didn't have that 6 month grace period for that first loan that I took. I had to take another loan for the last year of school and then I did have the 6 month grace period for that. But I agree it's awful! At least my monthly payments are only $150 total for whole loan that I have.

Mine are $186 right now but once the grace period is over for the other part of them it is $300+. I wouldnt be so aggrevated but it is not how it was explained to me. They told me because it was a medical leave of absence it wouldnt affect anything.

You can request a deferment. When I graduated college I didn't get a job right away and I got a deferrment for 6 months after the original 6 months after I graduated. Contacted your student loan or go on their website, you can usually download the deferment request online.

Im working on it it is just a silly and repetitive process. More hassle than it is probably worth I think. Might as well just pay them.

I don't know who your loan people are and maybe they've got different rules, but I didn't have too much trouble getting mine deferred. Once you get the paperwork it's just a matter of filling it out and waiting a week or so for the confirmation. The paperwork I had to fill out was very easy. All I needed to do was fill in my personal information and my reason for not being able to pay. It was pretty easy, once you get the process going. If you really don't have the money or, even if you do but it would put you in a tight spot, I'd still recommend getting it deferred. If you can actually pay it fine right now then you don't need to defer it anyway, I guess.

Thanks, I am gonna try but I am not going to fret if I can get it. I will figure out how to pay it one way or another.

Here's what I think you should do - you should call the loan holder (is it the government? Because mine is the government). Anyway, call them and explain to them what's going on (unless you already have, but even then I suggest that you repeat yourself with this one). Once you're done with that - tell them that you have no way of paying it right now. There has to be a way that they can help you out! You JUST graduated LAST WEEK - it shouldn't be that it's due in the coming week. So call -and talk. Let me know what they say after.

I did call them today. Thats how I knew that it wasnt deferred. I had my school send in a deferment last week. They are sending me some more forms to help defer it but sheesh. It is ridiculous. I stopped going to school for a medical leave not because I wanted to stretch out my loans a little longer. It is really silly to even think they want the money right now.

you said that you call to the bank and speak to them. but i think it would be so better make another call to them and explain your situation. it would so better if u do. u can ask deferment to your loan payout if u can. ok let u try better. anyway happy mylotting!!

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. I have not gone to college so I never knew how that worked either. I hate it that you do not have any time to get ready for it now. Good luck in Mylot. I will respond to your discussions if at all possible to help out.
