Why do aliens so scare humans?

I did a little searching around Mylot and apparently extraterrestrial talk and UFO's is a very off limits taboo discussion because nearly all the discussions in this arena have gotten no more than 4 responses. But if you go into very controversial topics, but very worn out ones like: "Islam vs Christianity" or "Is Christianity supreme" people seem to flock to these types and get into very heated arguments, so why not thinking, OUTSIDE OF THE BOX discussions-- do aliens scare people? What people do not understand they either act like it doesn't exist, and your crazy, or they fear it.

There's nothing taboo about these topics. There are just not many people on myLot who are interested in them. For most people, it's all speculation, so they steer clear, preferring to discuss matters about which they feel their knowledge is fairly strong.

i do like to play devil's advocate. i am not a religious person but i am spiritual. what makes me laugh is that people are perfectly willing to believe that there is a god but they do not believe there is intelligent life out there. yes maybe there is not proof of intelligent life out there, but there is really no proof of a god either so why are they more inclined to believe one over the other?

I've always been afraid of aliens. When I was a little girl, I would pray each night that, when I was abducted, that I wouldn't remember it. And then I'd be awake thinking about how horrible it would be to be abducted. I still wake up seeing things or imagine an alien outside my door when it's dark. I don't know why they've always scared me but they do. I think most people don't like to talk about the possibility of aliens because their either frightened or they think that we're the only life in the universe. Personally I think it's ridiculous to think that there couldn't possibly be other intelligent life out there somewhere. You don't have to think that they're visiting and abducting us. That's extreme. But to say that we're the only POSSIBLE ones seems pretty self centered to me. As for myself, I do believe in aliens and, at least, the possibility of abductions. Multiple people in my family have had experiences and sightings, so I grew up with it. I don't really talk about it with people too often because I don't want people to think I'm crazy. :P I don't believe in star children and all that though.

Well, I grew up in the woods and remember as a kid waking up in the middle of the night and going out in the complete dark and just walking around our house (it was a dome) and having no fear what so ever and it was so peaceful to me, don't recall anything happening though.

not sure why that happened but I am really curious about them and if I have more time online I will look for alien discussions on mylot. I'll probably reply if there is any that interests me. I don't want to get into a fight about politics or religion. I tried to stay away from these ones, only because I hate politics and politicians in general where as religion wise I am walking down spiritual path and religion is only a small part of this path.

yea politics rears its nasty head in everything and the dispersal of lobbyist in every category of life only keeps the ball rolling, maybe that's why its so easy to get caught up in it because it appears that there is no other way around it because politics doesn't have any clear answers which extends its life

Well I don't fear aliens, and I am not crazy.. or at least the last time I looked I wasn't...lol I feel that life away from earth is real. With other galaxies that exist why wouldn't there be? With other planets circling another sun would have the same type of planet system as we do, so that could be other planets that have life that could be just like ours. Then you could have other beings that could survive in different atmosphere's .. look at the spider on our planet, it can survive how much over earths life? God created all of life, who says we are the only one he created?? It doesn't say it did, and it doesn't say it didn't. Just says, God created life ... Ever think of a atom, how it is put together, we could be that small in another world that we don't even know about... The sun is the nuclues and so forth.. just a thought there.. lol maybe I am crazy...lol

oh yea, how profound, I think about these many things too. We are like nano's in comparison, think about the processes of the human body--its like another universe exist inside of the life forms that exist!! The processes that go on to keep our body alive, its soo amazing and then i think into the universe, sometimes Im looking out but really looking inside of MYSELF!!

Hi Revella :) I have never met or seen an alien, but it would not be a surprise to me if they do exist. I think we fear what we do not know. Isn't that how some people are with even other people or new places and experiences? I do believe that unknown factor is at the root of many fears, including for those who fear aliens. Karen

Im from a very small 'hick' town and moving to Connecticut was one of the greatest things that ever happened to me. Immediately the awareness of 'more out there' hit me and I was so fascinated as a 12 year old to know what ELSE lies out beyond my perception. My siblings never made that leap, won't even venture out of the state for leisure and I think its a shame but that's where they are comfortable and I always wanted to be the one to get them out of their shell by inviting them to visit but so far no success

Like you, I was raised in, and still live in, a very small town. I have the good fortune, though, of having traveled to 35 of our 50 states, to some of our largest cities, and to Canada. Each time was like entering a whole different world from the one in which I was raised and I embrace that still. Karen

i guess they scare people because it is all about the unknown, and it is something that humans do not understand. human nature is to fear something that you do not know. i think that the fear in this instance stems from not knowing whether the entities will be malevolent or benevolent. and if they are malevolent like the ones from independence day and war of the worlds or decepticons, then the human race is afraid that they do not have an adequate defence against such an attack. to be honest aliens and suchlike have been given a bad rep with the movies that are out there, apparently we will have to worry about crop circles, abductions and of course the dreaded an*l probe. i would like to believe that there is intelligent life out there in the universe, because if we are all that there is then that is very sad, i would like for a peaceful civilaztion to find us to teach us how to live in harmony with each other and our environment. some days i like to think that they may be aliens amongst us already, why you ask, merely because there are some inventions out there that mystify me, like how they came to be. did someone just wake up one morning and decide to create a specific something for no reason either than to see what would happen. like microwave dishes, satellite, aeroplanes, televisions, the internet, huh. i mean i know the stories that we are told about how these things came about, but i sometimes like to think that someone was abducted and given the knowledge, or we were infiltrated a long time ago and someone like einstein was one of the infiltrators. like i said it is nice to dream isn't it. this is an awesome subject, one close to my heart. the moment you talk about something like this it is automatically like you are strange or not all there. people have no imagination. thank the maker for science fiction and open minded people like you.

yea, i kind of get the impression people see these discussions and think 'oh boy, another one of THOSE' and move on, but I think 'Isn't it time people start asking these questions!!'--hey, if there is going to be contact with ET's wouldn't you want to be prepared, to understand it even remotely not completely caught off guard and scared out of your mind of it????

I imagine many would be so filled with anger and lose it completely because they'd realize they have been living a life their entire lives

I think people don't like the thought of aliens for the same reason that some don't like the dark -- it's the unknown that really scares them. Also, for some, it's really hard to accept that there may be life forms that are as intelligent -- or even more intelligent -- than humans.
